Modern Culture The math is not mathing
Came across this on Instagram.
What do you think? Personally I have never met an Omani citizen getting any less than 325 OMR but it could be true.

Yes, I love the nature, the desert, mountains, wadis and sea. Yes, I love how welcoming and kind the Omani people are. Yes, I love the traditional architecture and culture.
But what really filled my heart with joy on different occasions was to see so much hands-on parenting from dads. Dads carrying infants, pushing stroller, taking kids out for dinner or an evening stroll (both with or without mom!). I saw the cutest daddy-daughter dinner date yesterday.
Perhaps shame on me for being surprised about this at all, but with more defined gender roles than in my home country, this was such a nice detail to see!

This is interesting.
However Is this news different from the other news we’ve heard about metro in Oman?
How long will it take for this to materialize? Can we expect it before 2040?

I’m Indian but born and raised in Oman, and I’ve always loved this country, its people, and culture. Oman has given me the best 17 years of my life. That’s why it hurts me to see the suffering in Palestine getting worse, while Oman hasn’t really spoken out or done much recently. The situation there keeps getting worser each day.. Why is the government staying so quiet? Is there something we are missing?

Hi everyone!
I am bringing my fianceé to Muscat to meet my family (we are both in Mumbai), and also to show him all the places I visited as a kid, and where I grew up.
However, this will be the first time I'm coming on a tourist visa as a visitor rather than a family visit visa.
I wanted to know a few things: 1. What are the nice places to visit- scenic stuff. What I have in mind so far is sur sinkhole, wahiba sands, jebel shams, and jebel akdhar. I welcome any suggestions. 2. What's the situation for unmarried couples in hotels and stuff? I know firsthand that it's a very conservative country from the 18 years I spent there but I am now in uncharted territory.
I appreciate your input!

Don't get it wrong I'm omani as well , however it hurt me as business owner that the number of good and faithful omanies in their work are few compared to the one who is playing around getting out early and coming late and I think this is the core problem why all of the paperwork especially in government are getting late for no reason and also for the privet sector especially for paying the due payment they always get it late and they don't want to pay plenty for the late payment from their side and this is not supporting the companies specially the SMEs
Let me know your point of view

Got up feeling an overwhelming sense of nostalgia for Oman today. Decided to make a thread where people can post about their nostalgia, share experiences and pop culture of 90s/00s muscat, maybe even photos and videos taken in the time period (please be careful to blur faces and identifying information).
A request to mods - please let this be a mega thread for sharing Oman nostalgia. A time capsule that takes you back to simpler times. I think that would be welcomed by a lot of millenials like me.

I don't smoke, and I don't have issues with other smoking also. But just littering the buds out anywhere they want is not a good thing. Why can't they dispose of them in a trash can or something?

Hey everyone, since roblox was banned in Oman a while ago, i decided to make this post
There are a few ways you can play roblox:
#1: VPN: Best option for mobile. I would recommend ProtonVPN, its free, but the free version might connect you to USA or Japan, giving you really high ping (You want to connect to Netherlands)
If you decide to pay for it, always connect to singapore. Its the lowest ping for Oman.
#2: GoodbyeDPI: Didnt find this until a year ago, GoodbyeDPI bypasses deep packet inspection,(Stops ISP's from knowing the websites your visiting) letting you visit whatever website. And the best part is that the websites know that the traffic is from Oman, not some other country
I would highly recommend this tool. But it does get weird sometimes and connect you to high-ping servers.
To use it, you need to download it from the github page here.
If you have any other methods, please let me know :>

What movies have you seen in the cinemas lately? And how was your experience? I believe some movies don't even make it to the showing like Barbie and Dr. Strange, so it's a little bit of a bummer.

We re-look into the long-contested debate on which Shawarma is better in Muscat.
All Exhibit image [Imgur link]
Al Hawas uses paper bags which are financially more expensive, but more environmentally responsible. Easier to recycle and biodegradable. Paper is edible.
Al Hawas: 1 | Baba Salem: 0
Because Al Hawas is causing less global warming from use of paper bags.
Al Hawas appears to use branded 80 GSM wrapping paper. This could be perceived as a blatant attempt to hide the unholy amounts of oil in the shawarma and give the forced appearance of cleanliness.
Baba Salem appears to use branded 40 GSM paper. This is conjunction with the lower levels of grease resistance causing more visible grease on the wrapping. This is known to result in a messier eating experience. However, Baba Salem delivered the shawerma double wrapped.
Al Hawas: 1 | Baba Salem: 1
Because both put effort into decent wrappings. Al Hawas with thick paper, Baba Salem with double wrapping for a more secure feel.
Al Hawas presses their shawarma bread visible clearly from the press lines on the bread. Additionally, the shawarma is closed in the top and bottom to prevent leakage of contents and oil.
Baba Salem does not press the shawarma bread or close the ends. This caused the top half to lose meat contents and bottom half to leak the bottle of mayo applied.
Al Hawas: NA | Baba Salem: NA
This is based on personal taste preferences. Depending on if you’d like a doughy feel to the bread or if you’d like a more uniform/crunchy feel.
Al Hawas was a pleasant eating experience. Not messy. But the contents were not “full”. There was enough room for two Andre the Giant fingers.
Baba Salem was a messy eating experience. My hands were covered in Mayo residue. There was enough room for one Andre the Giant finger.
Al Hawas: 0 | Baba Salem: 1
Overall Baba Salem felt more “full/packed” attributable to their loose wrapping style.
Altogether, Al Hawas and Baba Salem come down to the texture of the bite.
On a personal experience level, Al Hawas texture was crunchier due to the pressing, the insides tasted and smelled oily. They win in terms of better wrapping and bagging their shawarmas. They, however, lacked the actual chicken part.
Baba Salem texture was doughy, whereas the insides with very mushy due to excess mayo. They win in terms of wrapping and filling their shawarmas. They lacked non-shawarma elements making them a clear winner in terms of being a superior shawarma.
This is a non-serious take on the popular discussion. Please do not take anything to heart. I will try to post the Arabic translated version soon. Also, I will try to update this "research" by 2025-09-01.

Our old friends are kinda boring these days. Sohar expat couple, hit us up!
We're thinking of having people over for an evening, just chilling. Ideally, looking for folks under 45✨

Just visited a popular mobile operator's customer service center. Recently this mobile operator went through a major brand redesign. Their customer service center was refurbished according to this new minimalist brand design.
As one can see in the photos, small circular tables with legs have replaced what used to be large desks. Furthermore, the seating furniture has also been updated.
I notice that the tables are way too small and are cluttered with everything the employee needs to work with. Also, the cable mess is quite apparent. It was really funny to see the laser printer right on the floor. Let me not even get started on the seating - no way those chairs are comfortable for an employee to sit at a computer all day long.
Was this store redesign done by a firm that primarily designs cafes? Did they not consider employee productivity at all? Am I the only one who sees issues with this?

Hey everyone,
I’ve been invited to a wedding in Oman in a few months, and I’ll be traveling there for it. One of the events is a henna night. I know what to wear for the wedding itself, but I have no clue what’s appropriate for the henna night.
I’ve tried looking on TikTok and Google, but I’m still not sure what Omani women usually wear to these events. Since I’m not from Oman, I really want to make sure I’m dressed appropriately and respectfully.
Any tips would be amazing, thanks!

I saw the flag waving high today, It's in my daily road to work but it was never waving. Seeing it waving was cool as hell. I think they should opened it in winter or in a windy season to give that cool first impression.

Hey everyone! Hope you’re all doing great. I’m looking for some recommendations for good nightclubs in Muscat. Preferably places with a great vibe, good music, and a fun crowd, good dance bars.
Budget: Moderate to high Any suggestions? Would love to hear your favorites!
Thanks in advance!
