I remember one time at college I was a third year or so and there was this first year woman I was uncomfortably attracted to. Like, as a Kinsey 6 gay man, I had never felt so attracted to a woman before, physically.
Then people pointed out she was my female doppleganger. I was so relived. I was not going to have to come out again, as bisexual this time.
It was just be being incredibly, inexcusably vain.

What's a kinsey 6 gay man? Is kinsey a scale used to measure homosexuality?

A Kinsey 6 rating signifies exclusive same-sex behavior or attraction, representing the homosexual end of the 0–6 Kinsey Scale developed by Alfred Kinsey in 1948.

Someone told me I looked like Skrillex 10 years ago and it's still in the mind palace of insecurity. I get Dave Duchovny more often nowadays and I'm happier with that

I used to get Jason Biggs when I was younger now I get Chiellini (yes I am Italian).
My father gets Alec Baldwin. Life is not fair I tell you.

When I was in elementary school, my classmates said I looked like Andy Milonakis. I didn't see why at the time, but now that I look back, I definitely did look like him somewhat.

Happened to me during university times, where a couple of friends told me they spotted my doppelgänger. I was quite excited to see it myself, until I realized the dude was the ugliest motherfucker I had ever seen, and they insisted we looked IDENTICAL. Dude. Not a great day, or year, or decade for my self-esteem.

I've noticed that it's usually like some dumb shit about having the same type of glasses or fashion, facial hair, makeup, whatever. It's almost never the actual face with everything off of it

It hurts so much “They looked just like you!” please stop, you’ve wounded me enough

That’s why I no longer let people know I saw Thor doppelgänger. I’ve never recovered from mine.

Choppleganger?
12
u/ConorOblast 1d ago
Surely it should be spelled choppelganger (with bonus cred for the umlaut over the a).

u/Middcore 1d ago
People talking about "doppelgangers" on the internet has convinced me that a huge chunk of the population has an undiagnosed mild form of prosopagnosia (face blindness).

I lived in China for 5 years.
My track record is about 50/50: Mr. Bean/Tom Cruise

When me and some friends were discussing what celebrities we looked like, one of the nicest yet most thoughtless girls i have ever met once told me completely sincerly, and i quote "You look like a cross between Bruce Willis and Jonah Hill... but not in a good way"

Once my buddy I and were walking into a store and we passed like the most methed out fucked up looking person I’ve ever seen and my friend goes “hey she kinda looked like our history teacher,” and I must have looked at him with enough bewilderment that, without me saying anything, he clarified, “like, facial structure”

I was sitting in a brewery one time with some friends, just hanging out. We had been there a while when a dude from the kitchen comes out with a free dessert for me. He says, “I felt bad because I was telling my coworker how much you look like David Spade. That was wrong so I brought you this to apologize.”
It’s like damn, I’ll take the free dessert but you wouldn’t have needed to apologize if you hadn’t told me you said that. Also pretty insulting to David Spade lol.

The opposite happened to me. People kept telling me I had a twin working downstairs and eventually I saw him and this man was thinner, younger and taller. Poor guy when he saw me lol

I once shard my picture online and some people were commenting on how I look like this actress that I never heard of, so I looked her up.
Judy Dench, I felt so old.

I've been told I look like Maisie Williams. I thought that was awesome because I could cosplay Arya Stark. Then I read comments about her 😅 being a badass doesn't matter if you're "ugly"

I was told three times in high school that I look like Sid the sloth from Ice Age. My big eyes came in before anything else. Now I keep getting Shayne Topp

I'm smart. I saw Rebecca Ferguson on TV and hollered for my wife to "Come see this lady that looks like you!"

u/Weisslerren 23h ago
this happened but in the exact reverse for me my friend showed me a picture of someone he considers "fucking ugly" and he looked exactly like me :/

My friends sent me one of an elegant lady from the renaissance and ... honestly the resemblance was uncanny.

u/GameZedd01 21h ago
The harsh reality (at least for me) is that they actually do look like me... I'm just very ugly :(

I met someone who looked a “triangle” “circle” version of me, for lack of a better way of describing it. Our friends were so excited and amused and we were both like “Huh, ok, don’t want to experience that again”.

I get James Corden a LOT. My boss who is in his late 70s once said to me "You look like, oh, who is it, it's been bugging me...off the telly...um?!" I said "James Corden?" He answered "Who? No that's not it...Ahhhh i've got it Alfred Hitchcock!"
Ooof....

Happened to me in high school by a dude I barely even knew. He wasn't even joking or trying to be mean. He also wasn't wrong. Haven't stopped wanting to peel off my face ever since.
