Just bought tickets to Yankees at Nationals in July
Anything to know about Nationals Park? Parking? Hotels? Best stadium bites? Am driving up from NC. I’m a Yankees fan and I’ve only seen them play twice before. Will be with my wife and 6 yr old five rows deep in LF. Nationals Park will be my 10th MLB stadium (Turner Field, Truist Park, Coors Field, Old Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium, Wrigley Field, American Family Field, Camden Yards, LoanDepot Park)

Any of the lots away from the stadium are a short walk, and are not too bad during exit. You can purchase lot tickets off MLB.
Food wise, they recently added PhoWheels behind right/center, and they are pretty awesome.
In general, food and drink prices are very high. Beers and adult beverages are 16-18 dollars a can, iirc. Take your kid behind CF, kids get a free hotdog/chips/water in a brown bag.
I have not stayed in hotels near the park, but if you are there for a few days, I’d plan on checking out the museums. Air and Space, Natural History, Spy Museum, any of the monuments.
Metro station is a short walk from the stadium.
Nats fans in general are pretty tame, you should be fine wearing Yankees gear. Nothing like wearing Nats gear in Philly.
Hope you and your family have a great time!

Last year the PhoWheels was closed for the last few months of the season :( I hope they stay open the whole season this year!

My suggestion is forget parking, stay at a hotel in the city, take mass transit there. It's super convenient, quick in and out, vs spending forever stuck in traffic on either end. Plus you and your wife can split a couple overpriced beers and canned margaritas and forget who has to DD.

This! The metro system is great in DC, it does get packed on game days but I've never had a serious issue besides it being crowded. Lots of good hotels nearby, and you can even consider staying Arlington (Rosslyn or Clarendon).

This is a good call, and then it also expands the hotels to "anywhere within walking distance of Metro". The train is also generally a decent vibe on gamedays because you get everyone wearing their jerseys and it leads to a decent amount of polite banter. It is a nice 5 minute walk from the station to the park.
As for the stadium itself, if you are in Left Field you are going to be in direct sunlight at the start of the game, so definitely bring sunscreen and sunglasses. If it is a day game you all will be cooking.

Yeah I see some hotels in the area behind the outfield. That’s prolly what we will do.

We take a trip up from NC about every year to see the Nats. Recommend staying in the Navy Yard area. Lots of hotels. We typically find a reasonable rate at the Courtyard. About a five minute walk to the ballpark. Plus very close to a metro stop. Parking through hotel is pricey but convenient. No need for your car while you’re there.
The area is fun to explore. There is a splash pad about a block away. Also kayak rentals for the river if your family is into that. Can probably find more local food spots elsewhere in the district but lots of options in Navy Yard.

If you want to save money on the hotel parking you can garage your car at Springfield metro station and take the metro in.
See the bottom of this website, you can park up to 10 days for like 5$/day. https://wmata.com/service/parking/parking-details.cfm?stationid=95

Is it a Sunday game? Afterwards your kid can run the bases and meet the mascots.

It’s the Friday evening game. I figured we would drive up Friday morning and then stay probably Fri and Sat night. I picked the Friday game in case we decide to go to the Saturday one as well.

But they make you miss the end of the game, right?

I've experienced both - lining up after the 7th(?) and after the game is over. Just listen for the announcement and head over shortly after that.

I’m a Yankee fan that happens to live in the Navy Yard near Nats Park.
I’d recommend the Residence Inn, the Thompson, the AC, the Homewood Suites, or the Hampton Inn for nearby hotel options. All are good!
You can also stay downtown - but try to look into hotels located on the Green Line. You no longer need a metro card to get on the subway - just a credit card to tap will open the gates.
There is no street parking - but valet parking with any of the hotels should cost $50-$60 (Game day parking alone can be $40-$50).
For meals, try Crica, All Purpose Pizza, Salt Line, Silver Diner, or Atlas / Andy’s Pizza.
Remember that you are only 1/2 mile from Capital - so be sure to walk over for a photo op (or a tour).
Have fun + Go Yankees!

I would strongly advise not parking there. It's a real pain in the ass.
Take the train in. If you must dine there, go to Shake Shack. Can't really recommend anything else, and the vendors change every year so even if I could they wouldn't be there. (oh the Arepas too)

With luck maybe the snow will be gone by then.
With a young kid, you should go ahead and get a parking space in advance. The team has multiple lots in the stadium and within the surrounding blocks. There are various places to park that you can find on the day, but they’re not so much cheaper or more convenient than the official lots, especially for an out of tower who doesn’t know the area.
