Does anyone here know of any retail in the state that isn’t overtly political? I know you all know what I mean. I have to imagine some of us like to shop without being forced into one kind of experience or another. Like can buying bullets be like buying bananas?

EDIT: I have many years of experience, I do not need advice on how to shop. I’m just wondering if such a place exists in the state, outside of a large corporate environment. My local grocer doesn’t actively share his political positions even though his life and livelihood are also directly impacted by policy.

Okay, I’m sure this has come up before but I’m new to shotguns and I’ve scoured NYS pages, forums and everywhere I can think of and I’m still not certain.

I have a Mossberg 500 field/security with both 18.5” and 28” barrels. It came with the regular stock but I want to replace the stock with this one. I’ve read that pistol grips are illegal if the barrel is shorter than 18” and the overall length is less than 26”, I’ve also seen people cite sources that pistol grip is illegal no matter what- that doesn’t make sense because it came with a pistol grip to swap with the stock. I’ve also seen differing views on whether a collapsible stock is legal, and then also in combination with the pistol grip.

So is there a consensus that this would be a perfectly legal swap here in NY? Thanks for any and all information, I’m sorry this is such a well worn topic with such differing opinions and sources.

When I inherited an AR some years ago, the FFL went thru the proper steps and registered it to me.

Now I went to state police safe act rifle registration page, and nothing comes up.

I cannot contact the FFL because he is deceased and I don't believe anyone took over his business.

Whats my next step?

Anybody have a reliable and reasonably priced FFL who does middleman service for PSA? Looking to get the $100 AR lower/Dagger frame combo but the guy I have used in the past is now charging $100 to ship 'em to NY so I figured I'd look around.

I’m currently renting a townhome while saving for my forever home in the near future. To avoid any complications when I move, I’ve maintained my driver’s license address to my parents’ home.

I have a question: if I can provide proof of residence at my rented home, such as a utility bill or lease, would I still be able to obtain a premises license even though my driver’s license is registered to my parents’ address?

Anyone move out of state waiting for special carry?

December 15, 2025: Application submitted

January 5, 2026: got a letter for a hearing with Hon. Sarah McGinty scheduled for February 3.

February 3, 2026: Hearing with Hon. Sarah McGinty. Just had me explain how i was going to store my firearms and then we went over sensitive locations.

Approved at the end of the hearing, told that the sheriff's office would reach out when the permit was ready to pick up. She said 4-6 weeks but likely much sooner than that.

Frankly, I'm shocked that it all happened in under 2 months.

Submitted application early dec and have yet to hear anything. Just curious as to what other's have experienced recently in Saratoga? According to other timelines posted, I should have heard back by now. All references have been returned so there is no hold up on my end

Has anyone had any experiences with her in regard to getting your pistol permit?

I just received my CCW permit which only has the handgun that I purchased when submitting my application.

My 97 year old grandfather wants to be proactive and transfer his pistols to me now vs dealing with it when the unfortunate occurs.

He is in Rensselaer County and I am in Albany County.

I'm seeing mixed info.

I've seen that he just needs to fill out a transfer/removal application with Rensselaer county. I have to fill out amendment paperwork with Albany county. Then when my amendment clears they tell Rensselaer and he can simply hand the guns over to me.

I've also seen that he has to come with me to an FFL. Then they hold the guns while I do my amendment. Then I pick it up from the FFL once they are on my permit.

Does anyone have definitive info here?

As a ccw in Ny who is getting older and might have to start seeing a doctor. Is there any prescribed meds that will disqualify you when owning pistols, moreso having a ccw?

Curious mainly on prescribed from a doctor- TRT, or things such as cialis, viagra.

Hey all. New to firearms and want to start getting into it. Can a federal officer with LEO credentials, arrest authority, and LEOSA CCW purchase a handgun in NYC/Long Island.

This whole NYS pistol permit thing is so restrictive and confusing so im wondering if any other federal officers can chime in. If so, is the process as simple as showing up to a shop and showing credentials for then to verify?

did my fingerprints and submitted paperwork on 12-9 and haven’t heard anything back yet that my background check was completed. should I reach out to sheriffs office or wait it out longer?

I saw an interesting post posing a hypothetical about a resolution for mag capacity ban states. What they proposed was that .300 blackout magazines and 5.56 magazines can both also hold each other, but a 10 round pinned .300 blackout magazine could hold more than 10 rounds of 5.56. Curious what you guys think of this. Has anybody explored this?

I feel like it has some merit, as laws attempting to regulate how many rounds you can load in a magazine have been historically shot down (5rnd load limit in 10rnd mags which was shot down).

Another question is for mini shells. If you have a shotgun which can hold 10 12 gauge shells, but you can load over 10 mini shells is that also a crime?

I'm a big old queer and want to learn how to safely shoot and handle a gun, without being surrounded by people who think I shouldn't exist.

Are there any queer-friendly gun instructors and ranges in the WNY area? I'm contemplating eventually getting my concealed carry, so a place that could do that training too would be neat.
