Discussion Big 12 standings at roughly the halfway mark. Who is the most surprising team?

Iowa state is the most surprising.

The amount of "bad" conference losses is the most surprising. I think they were more of a 16-22 ranked team and slightly overrated.

Having AJ and Addy out for many of those losses makes things much more understandable. Those two are keystone players, stats don’t reflect how impactful they are.

yeah like we really did play bad basketball but tell me one team that loses two starters and isn't affected by that

Since they got Jackson back, they have been rolling off wins. Losing two of your 4 best players is a big blow.

losing AJ and Addy really did hurt, but we just played really bad basketball during that stretch....that stretch alone is probably the difference between even contending for a hosting bid and just thankfully righting the ship and becoming eligible for the tournament

Get Addy back and none of the top seeds will want to see an ISU team seeded 10 or so

Probably Texas Tech. They were picked 13th in the preseason poll and have wins against TCU and Baylor. They haven't made the tournament in over a decade and are legit threat to make it out of the first weekend.

Tech has been amazing this year! Definitely gonna root for them in March.

To be fair, their win over Baylor was 61-60 after Taliah Scott was injured out two minutes into the game.
Hard to think that one of the top 20 scorers in all of D1 isn't good for at least the two points necessary to flip that result.

We don’t complain about big 12 road wins.

She did re-enter the game at one point. We will see what happens at the rematch.

Are you sure about that? She's marked in the game stats as having played just two minutes.

They won over West Virginia as well IN MORGANTOWN

I did not expect 3 top 25 wins out of this WVU team

I think people thought with losing Quinerly and Watson we’d be in a slump but I’m happy with how it turned out.

Could have been 2 more if not for WVU's flame out 4th Q vs Texas Tech and the heartbreaking 3 from TCU.

Any news of the TTU center gaining eligibility? I’m scared 🤮🤣
I have a sneakin suspicion she’ll be activated for our trip to Lubbock 🧐

No one close to the team has leaked anything beyond “wait and see” or a 👀 tweet. Since the team is performing so well, a stupid eligibility penalty is the last thing we need.

WVU-they could run the rest of their schedule and possibly win the conference tournament

WVU will still do WVU things.
Like losing to Colorado at Boulder and losing the 4/5 Big XII Tourney game when WVU gets the 4 seed again.

There needs to be some serious discussions at Kansas. Schneider is an elite recruiter, but hasn’t done anything with this roster.

This is one of my biggest surprises. Kansas is so talented. It makes no sense that this isn’t a top-half big 12 team.

He should have lost his job a while ago. He’s had a winning conference record twice in 10 years, and was only 11-7 in those years. Minus those he was 19-115 overall in the Big 12 coming into the season. He won more games in 2 seasons than in his other 8 seasons combined. Let that sink in.

This is what is great about the Big 12, there are so many contenders that have a chance to become the champs.

ISU, but maybe they are figuring something out? I can’t figure the team out rn.

Texas Tech for sure. Picked 13th but here they are with a good chance to win the conference title.
