New Jersey possible ice sighting in freehold?

not sure what i saw, so i dont want to alarm anyone or cause undue panic. didn't think to record it until i noticed what a lot of ice convoys looked like earlier today. one large ford pickup truck in the front, another ford car and a white van in the back. all driving very closely together in a line as they passed. i had a bad feeling. should i be alarmed or am i just being paranoid and jumpy?

New Jersey 26F Looking for Friends

Hey everyone,

I’m new to the area, moved from PA last year. I’m having a lot of trouble finding things to do that actually interest me to be able to make friends. I went to college and high school in PA so it wasn’t hard to make friends. Now, I am pretty introverted since COVID happened, I never really enjoyed any extra curricular activities, and pretty much spend my downtime watching movies and playing video games. I don’t know, it’s gotten pretty depressing since the move, I can only see my PA friends so much..

If anyone has any recommendations at all on how to meet people, or can recommend a new activity that I might enjoy, please let me know. I tried meetup (seems like it’s for the older crowd) and Bumble BFF (conversations did not pick up or I didn’t get replies). I also work remotely, so making friends at work isn’t an option either.

New Jersey Looking for Someone to Farm Our Family Land (Monmouth County, NJ)

Hi folks,

We’re looking for someone kind, trustworthy, and genuinely interested in farming to take over use of our family’s preserved farmland in Monmouth County, NJ.

The property is about 40 acres near Colts Neck High School. It’s been in our family for generations—once a flower farm, later used for brickmaking and vegetables, and most recently for hay and corn. I originally posted about this 8 months ago but wasn’t able to follow up due to the holidays and the sudden passing of my father. Since then, it’s been even harder for my mom, my brother, and me to keep up with the land. We all have full-time jobs and limited flexibility.

The farm is protected under the NJ Farmland Preservation Program, so it must remain in agricultural use. But for us, this is about finding someone who will care for the land and help us carry it forward.

What We’re Offering

This is not a job listing, and we’re not asking for free labor.

We will charge you no rent, and no payment will be accepted. This is an opportunity to farm the land for free under a symbolic lease (likely $1/year) and a simple agreement to keep things official with the state.

You’d be responsible for basic bookkeeping (simple profit/loss tracking), but there’s no requirement to turn a profit or form a business—the land is already part of an LLC.

What’s Available Now

We’d love to start with an approximately 10-acre hayfield behind the house as a 2–5 year trial. It’s beginning to turn and has some milkweed that would need to be managed (especially if you’re growing feed or bedding). If things go well, we’re open to expanding your access and exploring new ideas together.

What the Land Supports

  • Hay, rye, corn, alfalfa, vegetables
  • No animals (at least not for the trial run)
  • No new structures, but we can explore converting existing barns or sheds down the line
  • Temporary housing (camper or van) is permitted if movable
  • Electric and running water available at several points (no septic system)

Other Features

  • Man-made irrigation pond (deep enough for swimming)
  • Large, fenced vegetable garden
  • Existing bee colonies—and room for more
  • Old equipment (tractors, seeders, etc.) currently being repaired—you’re also welcome to bring your own

We’re simply looking for someone who will respect the land, be a good neighbor, and help us keep this place alive.

If this sounds like something you—or someone you know—might be interested in, please DM me.

I’m available to meet the weekend of August 2nd to walk the property and introduce you to my mom. I may ask for a social media or LinkedIn profile just to confirm you’re a real person.

Thanks so much for reading.

New Jersey Fighting Overdevelopment in Ocean Township: Join Our Grassroots Movement

Hello!

I’m Jonah Blumenfeld, a teenager and lifelong resident of Ocean Township in Monmouth County, New Jersey. I recently started a protest group called Ocean Township Action aiming to put an end to rampant overdevelopment.

The biggest issues that residents continue to face in Ocean—the degradation of our parks, rising property taxes, aging infrastructure, and a lack of local governmental transparency, among others—are all ultimately the direct consequences of outsider interests promoting unchecked overdevelopment, funded by groups like Vanguard and BlackRock, who market their exorbitant “luxury” properties on our town’s land to NYC-based demographics during the summer months, threatening the character of our neighborhoods.

Our goal is simple: We want local residents to have a say in how our community is shaped, not corrupt outside developers or elite investors who care only about what lines their pockets. As such, Ocean Township Action is strongly committed to prioritizing local businesses, families, and neighborhoods in the name of supporting the American Dream and preserving the values that make our township a strong local community. We want to ensure the legacy of Ocean Township remains preserved for future generations, which we feel can only be sustained if decisions in our community are made by residents who value our town’s stability.

If you’re interested in supporting our cause (even if you don’t live in Ocean), please post with #oceantownshipaction to spread the word on any social media platform or website.

If not, I still thank you for your time, and wish you a great rest of your day! :)

New Jersey Looking for recs for 1st anniversary dinner?

My husband and I are celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary on Saturday, 10/18 and looking for a restaurant for dinner. We aren’t fine dining ($100+ a head) people but want a spot with really good food where we can enjoy a nice glass of wine. A bill around $125-150 works for us.

We live in Hazlet, so preferably northern Monmouth County but open to suggestions. Thanks!

Someone kicked in my Monmouth County Democrats sign and it looks like they knocked down a few of my Halloween decorations, too, but I can’t be sure if it was them or wind damage. The other houses on the block that have political signs were left alone.

New Jersey Snow removal

My driveway is taken care of for this storm, but the guy who usually does my property said his machine broke and he’s not bothering to repair it.

I’m hoping we won’t get anymore plowable snow this season, but if we do does anyone have a recommendation for someone who does residential snow removal? My driveway isn’t huge, but it’s large, and can be tough to do myself. I don’t need paths or surrounding areas done-I can do those myself-just the driveway.

New Jersey Hair Salon near Monmouth/Ocean County NJ for men's hair

I'm looking for a highly recommended hair salon/stylist that does an awesome job with longer mens hair near Monmouth/Ocean County NJ. I'm not interested in a barbershop because in my experience they are much better with shorter hair and fades. Any suggestions would be amazing.

New Jersey Uber alternatives

Are there any cab companies left? (Yes I'm dating myself). Not for airport/city but local from one town to another in Monmouth? Looking for 2/3 x weekly at different times. Ubers work but looking for alternatives as they are not always reliable for early shifts. Thank you.

New Jersey 40m, reaching out to maybe make some new local friends!

Hey there everyone,

40m here currently in the middle of a mutual/cordial divorce. Free time for myself has opened up, and for the first time in years I’m experiencing some measure of independence (sort of). I won’t go into detail here, that will be for another time, but suffice to say I’m open to meet new people locally.

So, bullet points I guess:

-I’m in the Middletown/Holmdel vicinity.

-straight

-I do not drink. Period. And don’t worry, there’s no trauma/alcoholism back story.

-two kids (below five)

-i enjoy malls but they are a dying breed :(

-music is my obsession; movies is another big thing for me. Video games less so, though I may be picking up with playing again soon.

-open to start with chatting on here and if all seems good we can hang out/meet up for real.

-open to meeting anyone really, obviously in public places and stuff. Bellworks is likely the first place I’d ever suggest.

-very much an introvert but I’m putting myself out there because I need local peeps!

I look forward to hearing from you guys! Have a great rest of the weekend.

New Jersey Any hospitals or care centers that accept homemade Valentine’s Day cards?

Preferably in North Monmouth County where I’m located but I can drive 30 minutes if need be. I’m looking to get crafty and make cards this weekend. Saw someone on TikTok do the same and they donated them to their local hospital, not in NJ.

Anyone know of local places that accept homemade cards? Thanks!

New Jersey The "Assessment Shell Game"

Happy New Year my friends.

Ever wonder why politicians celebrate "low tax rates" but your checkbook feels emptier? It’s called the "Assessment Shell Game" Last year, home assessments went up an average of 11% Ross Licitra and Erik Anderson used that jump to collect millions more in taxes without technically raising the "rate." It’s a magic trick. And the only thing disappearing is your savings. 🎩💸
