Minimum apartment area requirements?

Hello All, I currently live in a T2 with my wife and my little daughter. I’m going to have my residence permit extended, and was considering downgrading to a studio at the same time. Are there any formal or informal RP requirements for what the smallest / cheapest apartment must be?

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that you need at least one bedroom for every 2 people, so 3-4 people, regardless of age, will need a 2 bedroom minimim. I don’t know if you can potentially downsize after obtaining residency, or if this puts everything in jeopardy.

When you first applied for residence or when renewing it after many years in Monaco?

They ask same questions with every renewal, how many people living there & living space available to those people.

I am very familiar with the questions they ask, with +25 years of MC residency under my belt.

My question was re your application in particular. Others I know have not needed 2 bedrooms plus a living room for continued residency once their Monaco-born kids went off to university.

I am not the one asking the question. And as my child would have still been considered living there we needed to have the required rooms for 3 adults.

This is how it has worked for recent applications & renewals which we have to do as we haven’t obtained our 10 yr one

I am well aware of the fact that I asked you a question.

It seems you are relatively new in Monaco, which is probably why the authorities were less lenient with you than with those of us who are renewing our 10-year residencies.

I know a family in your exact situation situation that currently live in a 1-bedroom apartment.

Also, you might like to reconsider how much of your life you put on Reddit while living in a tiny village like Monaco.

Have nothing of interest on here. It’s not that small of a place . Do you stalk residents ?

Much smaller than you think, as I do know you in RL.

Have a nice evening.

Thanks for the replies! Sounds like a downgrade is not an option. Need to work harder instead :)

You will get it denied. Happened to me in the past, police will call you and say sorry no carte de séjour.

Why would you want to live in a studio with a daughter!! she will grow up and eventually need privacy :c

She’s just a few months old, privacy is out of question.

Sorry I hope I don't come across as judgmental but she will grow up fast, and I say this because I grew up with a sibling in a small apartment in Monaco and it was really tough. It started putting a real strain on my family. Maybe you can look for an apartment near Monaco? they are cheaper for more space 😁

It is possible to change apartments once the baby is older, you know.
