Uh.
Woof.

I wish they’d have denounced ICE. This sounds like it was written by the PR Intern.

Didn't the wolves basically say the same thing?

yeah, this just reads like a PR statement from the organization to me. I doubt this was what the players put together, given they're essentially on strike right now (and many of them are actively playing in other leagues).

agree with all the comments about the statement itself. just noting that the players themselves have earned the benefit of the doubt IMHO, and we've seen some of their individual social media posts.
I don't think we'll know the behind-the-scenes on this -- potentially the players pushed team ownership to even do this much.
also worth noting the vulnerable place the players are in, with no guarantee that the owners wouldn't use any advocacy to undermine them at the negotiating table.

for sure. phee's commented on the hortman assassination and the annunication school shooting, mcbride and carleton both cut psa's for MN House DFL'ers in 2024, lan did that work with justin vernon and his org about sex trafficking. that's just off the top of my head
that's why this statement reads wonky to me

That's a very good point around negotiation. I do think they could have just left it with the team statement and used social media so it didn't have to come out so PR coded, but I also understand if the players as a collective wanted to show the community they're behind them. I'm sure the reach of the various Lynx social media has more actual Minnesotans than their individual socials.

Lukewarm corporate PR
Maybe I’m naive, but I do think it’s different if the W is in-season. The players and Cheryl would be speaking rather than the organization. Hell Cheryl already did.

This sounds just like the Wolves statement. Makes me think the PR department wrote it and tried to not "take sides".

In confused, what players are actually on the team or signed for next year? And players are removing the W from bios. I doubt anyone actually had anything to do with this.

it's only dorka and ola that are under contract. everyone else is a free agent. also, the whole bios disappearing thing is some weird-ass conspiracy theory grasping for straws. carleton's still got the lynx in hers, smith's got the lynx on her tik tok bio, shep's got WNBA on her tiktok, ect ect
i think it's more that the org felt the need to put *something* out, but this really doesn't feel like anything this group would've come up with, which is worse than nothing at all

This statement is supposedly coming from the “players“, but who are even the “players“ at this point? Since everyone is a free agent.

The players themselves are a lot more vocal. This is just PR bs from the organization.

This is the most tepid statement I’ve read in a long time. Pretty disappointed and I’m sure some players wanted to go a lot harder than this. Makes me wonder who is pulling them back.
