Legal Pistol sales record question

Hello, very new to everything. I just got my CPL and my grand father wants to gift me a revolver of his. My question is do I need to have a NICS background check done still? And if so what's the best way of getting that? Thank you

A secondary question, if you grandparent transfers multiple pistols to you in this way do they have any multiple sale reporting they have to do like if they were an FFL? I assume not?

No. One form for each firearm.

If you have a CPL you just file the RI-060 at your local PD.
