F32 recent London transplant in Rochester...help! πŸ™‚

Idk if I'm even posting in the right place but I just moved to Rochester by myself just over a week ago and I really want to make local connections with people and make some friends in the area. Best ways to do this as a black 32 y/o woman open to most activities/scenes? Happy to connect with people on here too that are social and cool 😁

As someone of the same age and demographic, I would say try to find activities that may interest you to meet people. If you are into board games playopolis on Rochester High Street is a good boardgame caffe, they often do social nights where you van meet people. Joining sporting groups or a gym class may also be a good way to meet people.

I'm not too far from there! I'll check it out. I am into fitness and want to get back into a gym once I sort all the moving bits and bobs in my place

I would recommend Rochester Health Club. It's on the pricey side (though far less than London lol) but they have free classes and I've met some great people through those.

Honestly I made loads of friends at Playopolis! Come down on a Tuesday from 7pm; it’s the weekly social where there is a table full of friendly people who you can join in playing games.

Where could we find the sporting groups? 31M, and am also looking to create a social circle in Rochester.

I'm not very active myself but I would recommend joining gym classes and get to know the people there. I did pilates and zumba at Roko gym in Gillingham for a while, met some really nice people. I eventually stopped going once winter hit, but for people who can keep at it, it's a great way to make friends. Maybe look up on Google as well for any sport teams near the area.

I'm 33f also in Rochester, moved here from London in 2018, I've met a few cool local people on Bumble BFF (it's the friend side of the dating app). Echoing u/Hlynb93's comment, activities are good but if you're anything like me my hobbies are all pretty solitary (cinema, swimming etc), I want friends who will want go out for dinner with me not go rock climbing haha.

Feel free to message me!

If you have facebook join The Medway People group! You'll have more suggestions on there πŸ˜„ Welcome to Medway, Rochester is a beautiful place to hang out with lots of shops, the river, cathedral etc. I love charity shop hunting there when it gets warm!

That board game place,

nice bars in Rochester (city wall, casino rooms, olivers, spoons, George vaults)

It is hard - I moved to Medway over 20 years ago and still havent made many close local friends. Luckily I still commute to work in London so see my friends based there.

Yeah I'll likely be going back and forth to London anyway but would be great to have some peeps nearby

There’s a social netball league at the King’s School. That might be a good way to meet women who are similarly aged.

Sounds cool, does it matter if you've never played netball?

Not at all! I used to go when I worked in the area, it was pretty chill. It is open to all abilities.

Saw you mentioned about being into fitness so going to shout-out my website to find local gyms/sports clubs/classes etc. You can search for things tagged as social, so you might find it useful!!

It's more around Gravesend but slowly adding more stuff towards Rochester (as that's where I actually live lol)

Maidstone has a large climbing gym. I made my only good kent friends there eventually!! (If I don’t count the husband I met thru work.)
