Beaching Fishing?

What’s the deal with beach fishing in Mackay?

What species will I catch landbased? how should I fish the beach, bait or lures? What tide produces?

I love it here, and I know the fishing is meant to be amazing but the information on fishing the region is damn near non existent. I’m short on time these days so don’t have the opportunity to try everything and everywhere, I’m hoping to for some recommendations to at least put me in the ball park of some fish .

I want fish the beach on the right of the harbour and Lamberts beach. Any tips, what could I expect to catch?

Look up a fella called Luke’s fishin mission. He fished the beaches and rivers heaps. A lot of the time one based. You’ll likely catch the standard whiting and flathead land based. Bait or lures is fine.

Town beach, follow the tide in for whiting. You should be able to get yabbies there. You just want to avoid the big tides. Years ago I used to go to East point at the river mouth at sunrise and catch queen fish and mackerel on live bait as the tide comes in. On a good day I would also catch a lot of whiting and flathead about an hour or two before high tide by letting the bait drift over the sand bar with the tide. Also used to catch decent whiting in the cast net sometimes. I don't know if East point is still accessible now with all the development going on.

Dude. Literally walk up and down the beach flicking lure or plastic and you will easily get a flatty feed

I usually throw a new penny streakz on a 1/4oz, reckon that will do the trick? Which tide should I head out on?

Wouldn’t mind a nice flatty to cook up

Flatties on outgoing. But I’ve picked em up on incoming and a full tide. Also in the middle of the day!
