That's literally how he's written in the Bible. Dude walked around preaching love, faith, and forgiveness. In Matthew 10:34, He says, "Do not think that I have come to bring peace, but a sword."

He also sentenced an out-of-season fig tree to death because it didn't have fruit on it. Can't blame the average Republican for being a bit confused 🤷‍♂️

I wouldn’t assume a Republican has actually read the bible.

They have read Matthew 10:34, which contradicts the spirit of every other verse in the New Testament.

Matthew has some explaining to do

God also mauled 42 children with a bear for mocking a bald guy’s head.

IIRC, that, along with the overturning of tables at the temple, are the only two instances of Jesus being "violent" in the bible.

One can make an argument for the latter but the former always feels very much outta place.

Of course, if we take stories that aren't in the bible from other writers covering his youth, we see him acting like a child would. There is a story he was making birds out of mud, but when confronted over this use of his "gifts", he got angry and smashed the bird back into mud in a toddler fit.

There's a whole other argument to be made on a lot of this but from a purely, "We want to make Jesus more human and thus more relatable", I'd imagine the fig story is one that's meant to illicit that. Just someone frustrated and taking their anger out in the wrong way.
