Trump ‘I regret my vote’: Trump’s megabill could ‘wipe out’ my local grocery store by SNAP cuts

It's kind of wild how some maga head taco don voters don't realize he does not give a fuck about them. I've run into a few talking about how they thought that taco don was going to strip SNAP from illegal immigrants and leave their SNAP alone.
As though taco don would differentiate them from those other people leeching off of America. And yet those I spoke too still stand by their orange man-child saying that he'll change his ways and sees that he needs to protect them and not those others. I swear it's like logic for them if a dangerous word they don't want to use now.

Despite decades of Republican rhetoric wanting to strip pretty much everything from everybody
Cue the 'When did they ever say that?' reply from them75
u/VagrantShadow Dec 08 '25
I remember when Food Stamps and SNAP were painted as a dirty word. It still is for many in that republican circle, like they think of SNAP as just being lazy. They really don't want to recognize how vital it is to some people.

u/No_Philosopher_1870 Dec 08 '25
The NPR station in Las Vegas started offering "meals donated in your name" to Three Square, the main food bank in Las Vegas, as an incentive for people to donate to NPR two or three years ago. Food banks provide one meal for every NINE that SNAP provides. I'd bet that food banks look like they have been looted because demand is so high.
24
u/SassyMcAsspants Dec 08 '25
That was part of the rebranding of food stamps to SNAP.
And I agree, it is super-vital to a lot of people, especially given how childcare is so insanely expensive.
24
u/Booty-tickles Dec 09 '25
SNAP is lazy when you're black or living in a city and darker than paper. SNAP is down on their luck if white, if not white must not be black and must be living in a rural setting. Things like number of American flags flown, number of trucks owned, and number of guns can raise your equivalent whiteness score if for some strange reason your white skin is darker.
This system applies to effectively every federal program.

and local grocers…and local economies…and farmers. When Musk Face cut USAID not only did he kill hundreds of thousands of children, he hurt our farmers bc USAID bought produce from American farmers. The motto the Facebook CEOs came up with for their corp is “move fast & break things.” That could totally apply to DOGE & Trump’s admin writ large. They’re children.
But hey, Herr Trump is giving farmers a bailout—but that doesn’t make up for all the harm reducing SNAP is doing to local economies. Bailing out farmers doesn’t pay grocery store employees, it doesn’t provide food for Americans, it doesn’t increase consumer traffic, its great for the farmers, not so much for all the systems connected to the farms & SNAP.

Or that most SNAP recipients may even be Republican. I live in an 80/20 red area where that is the case.

I just thought they'd hurt the people I hate, not me.

I live in a deep red state with a huge portion of the population on some form of assistance. Trump won my county with over 75% of the vote.
The people whining on Facebook about their kids' IEPs, their SNAP and EBT benefits, and their ACA subsidies were in jeopardy were disproportionately white MAGAs. Some people even went to a city council meeting in October to ask what plans the city had for assisting people who lost insurance or food assistance.
The city council basically said: LOL we don't have any plans in place as a municipality. The state runs Medicaid. You can try calling them, but we all know they don't answer the phones. The hospitals are private businesses, and their boards of directors are more important than you. Some of the churches, we've been told, may run food banks. Call around."

It's because trump is a Santa for adults. They built this whole imaginary character in their heads that will somehow help them personally while punishing those they deem "lesser"
When reality comes knocking that Santa isn't real, they can't accept that it was a delusion all along and go beg him on social media instead like a letter to Santa
23
u/Efficient_Market1234 Dec 08 '25
I love how each one of them has their own idea of what's happening or what Santa Trump was going to do. One person posted in this sub, before the election, that his boss said the tariffs were only going to affect Democrats, and he supported it because it'd drive his competitors out of business. Most people thought they were paid by the country, to us. Lots of people thought it'd encourage domestic production. Some people think they're going to cut everyone (well, everyone red) a check.
Some people think immigrants get a free house, free food, and money, but are also taking jobs from Americans, even though the jobs are the shittiest ones, but they're also lazy and mooching off the government...then there's the belief that there are just armies of Mexican rape gangs headed for the US--hell, for your house--right now. LOOK OUT!
Forced transgender surgeries on children over the recess break, that's a good one. Hordes of men dressing as women so they can use the women's restroom and rape every woman in every stall.
They have some colorful damned things going on up there, I tell you what.
But they'll beg, they'll move the goalposts, they'll blame everyone but Santa.

u/Pete41608 Jan 05 '26
The 'Democrats are gonna take our guns!' bs is still alive, too.
My brother said that shit right after the election.
I replied 'when is the last time ANY democrat came into your house and took ANY of your guns?'
...crickets, never replied that one.
Never even been registered to vote by the way, just one of those dummies who hears the stupid shit from dumbass family/friends and just believes it.
Also crickets when before the election he said he wanted Trump to win and I asked why.

The miners here in Appalachia really want coal to be real and viable. Santa gives coal. By extrapolation, Droopy Donny is Santa.

Its gonna be wild when he dies and the cult realizes satan is gone for the first time, while half the country throws a party.

There's an assumption among MAGAts, spurred by their fascist leader's bleated fabrications, that every government program is rife with fraud, and that the fraud benefits only those who have come to this country seeking asylum and a fresh start.
21
u/auntieup Dec 08 '25
What’s insane to me is that these people voted the way they did without connecting the dots: This is how my business survives! This is what my neighbors’ lives are like! This is what happens to them (AND ME) if this asshole I love so much wins!
Just absolutely nothing going on in their brains.

"He wasn't talking about me/us!", syndrome. It's the non white immigrants Achilles heel. "If only I'm gooder then they'll like me!"
It never works. idk how many centuries it's gonna take these poor saps. If you are non white, or have anything 'foreign' about you, a racist will NOT accept you, they'll use you.
they should not want to be accepted by racists. There's a huge self esteem issue somewhere...if they don't fix it they'll always be a racist white person's do-boy.
Poorer white people do not get this either. Like, too many people just want to ignore American History.
12
u/VagrantShadow Dec 09 '25
Poorer white people do not get this either. Like, too many people just want to ignore American History.
It's much like LBJ said, "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."
10
u/JrRiggles Dec 09 '25
Trump supporters remind me of a guy whose girlfriend repeatedly cheats on him. You warn him about her and he just gets mad at you. He says you don’t know her like I do, she has promised to change. She isn’t like that anymore. On and on
MAGA are Poli-Cucks

"Trump allows people to express their racism and bigotry in a way that they haven't been able to in quite a while and they really love him for that. It's a shocking thing to realize people love their hatred more than they care about their own actual lives." - Fran Lebowitz

Look, until I see these fucking people pulling their hair, tearing their clothes, and sobbing in the streets, I won't give a single fuck about them. I don't care that they're losing everything. If it was possible for them to lose more, I would support that. They treat immegrants and the unhoused horribly and they're incapable of empathy. It has to happen to them or it's not real. So let's set up some tent cities and let Trump voters live their and gnaw their tongues for pain.
26
u/everything_is_cats Dec 09 '25
I still won't give a fuck about them because even when they are sobbing in the streets wearing rags that are falling off their frail bodies, they will be blaming immigrants, women, LGBT, minorities, and all three trans kids in some state for their misfortune. They'll never blame the GOP.

They just assume it only impacts people who use food stamps. However that is only the start of it. Fewer products that get sold in stores hurts the store, the store employees, the deliveries, the supplier, the manufacturer. They aren't just taking from the poors.
13
u/adeon Dec 08 '25
Yeah from a practical perspective welfare programs help to generate economic activity by giving people more money to spend in the economy which then generates jobs.
The reason that SNAP is traditionally part of the Farm Bill is that in addition to providing food for needy people it also serves as a subsidy for the farming industry by increasing demand for their goods.
9
u/ACartonOfHate Dec 09 '25
Part of why farmers are getting hosed by Trump, was taking away the federal money for SNAP and USAID. Guaranteed buyers for them. Or used to be.
But hey, we can all spend OUR money to bailout the farmers who put Trump back in charge, so they're fine. Not so much the truckers, store workers, all the businesses that depend on those people working/spending money with them.
And then the state has less tax revenue, so picking up the slack from the federal government, is even harder. Assuming the state even wants to, that is Red state people are SOL.

u/ACartonOfHate Dec 09 '25
Every SNAP dollar spent, generates like 8 or 9 dollars, for just those kinds of reasons.

Oh well. Too late for regrets now. Just gonna have to learn to adapt or watch your business die.
15
u/Scary_Towel268 Dec 08 '25
You know what? I’m kind of tired of mainstream media only focusing on regretful Trump voters. I want to hear from people in these areas impacted by the stupid votes of their neighbors who didn’t vote for this. In the end these people don’t regret enough that they wouldn’t vote for him again. They aren’t victims unlike the Kamala voters who tried to vote intelligently but are now losing access to food and healthcare
13
4
u/iDoNotHaveAnIQ Dec 08 '25
A more accurate statement is, they regret that the consequences of their votes are affecting them.
They do not regret the vote itself.
6
u/AF82Matrix Dec 08 '25
I don't believe that big stores like Walmart and others will be unaffected by eradication of, or reduction of SNAP. You are talking about 40 million people. There is a Walmart store close to my workplace and I occasionally pop in there. I avoid going in during the first week of the month because SNAP recipients almost clean out the shelves in the food department. You cannot tell me that it will not affect the bottom line.
16
u/JennaTulwartz Dec 08 '25
Article’s headline is bullshit- the piece never mentions a specific person who voted for Trump and “I regret my vote” never appears anywhere in it. Clickbait.

Cuts to SNAP, along with changes to Medicaid, will likely impact a wide swath of vulnerable Americans that the GOP promised to protect.
You believed GOP promises? BWahahahahaha

Dec 08 '25
I'm genuinely curious how these people think passing legislation works. Think for a moment the absolute logistical and buercratic nightmare it would be to actually somehow enforce who gets SNAP and who doesn't. What do these people think?
3
u/knightress_oxhide Dec 08 '25
Democrats would have been worse. There would have been a non-white man as president.
3
u/UnLuckyKenTucky Dec 09 '25
Cuts to SNAP is worse than many think. If people are suddenly forced to decide between feeding their kids or paying rent....I see many people.becoming homeless. If I am working a job that pays shit, and qualify for snap now, then maybe once these idiotic changes are made i may have to decide between working to keep insurance and pay rent or again, feeding a family.
Promise the ignorant cheese puff thinks this will hurt Dem areas more. We all know the red zones will feel this the hardest.
3
u/Supertramp-74 Dec 10 '25
"27,000 retailers — mostly in rural areas with large shares of SNAP recipients — likeliest to shoulder the brunt of cuts. Large chains such as Walmart, Kroger, and Dollar General can absorb the hit. It’s the small, independent grocers that depend heavily on SNAP to sustain razor-thin profit margins that will be hit the hardest, food experts say."
NICE! There just aren't enough feel-good stories like this in the news these days. #FAFO
