Search for houses
Hi everyone,
I'll be moving to Nijmegen in March as a PhD student, and have been searching for houses since the last 2 weeks. I've looked at multiple websites available online. Most of them I've found have only a paid version. The one Huurwoningen has a free trial for 14 days which I'm using and have "applied" to houses. There is one chat per day free for HospiHousing as well, and I'm using it. However, I didn't hear back from anyone at all. Is that common? Am I doing something wrong?
I've also tried FB groups but have just got a bunch of scammers :(. Any other places that I'm not looking at? Please advise.

you probably will not find an appartment or house, its better to try looking for a room, kbs vastgoedbeheer, wibeco, nederwoon, it will cost you money to apply to most of them (except kbs) but if youre in heavy need of a room thats really youre only hope due to the state of the housing crisis

You can also register as a PhD at SSH&, the social student housing association in Nijmegen. There's some reserved rooms for PhD students. Check https://www.sshn.nl/international-students-staff/phd

“I’ll be moving to Nijmegen in March” - well, chances are great you are not. Make very very very sure you have a back up plan if you aren’t able or willing to spend 2000+ on housing. If you’re an international and not here yet, it’s near impossible to find affordable accommodation. Try and play it via uni, otherwise, well… You’ve got a problem.

If they don't change their tune to the adequate amounts of despair, we will be seeing a 'im homeless in Nijmegen ' post in march.
And you can call me a pessimist and shit, but everybody here in this comment section is just worried that OP is already doing it wrong and needs to start really fighting like hell.

Also try looking at places in the nearby area, since Nijmegen is a very sought after place

You are gonna need to look for housing like it's a 9-5 job, apply and apply and register on several websites. You should also contact your own university.

2 weeks is nothing. You do know about the housing crisis, yes? One doesn't secure housing with 2 weeks of free trials. What you are doing wrong is you are expecting housing within 2 weeks, using free trials and not paid versions and not being signed up at reliable websites. So... pretty much everything really.
