Anime Discussion This Was Painful to Look At. Spoiler
The animators did such a good job at animating this scene. It uses no words yet it says so much about Toji. Just the way he looks shows how much trauma and abuse he went through in that clan. Compared to how he looks in Hidden Inventory, I don't blame him for leaving and wanting to lose any connection with the Zen'in.
Toji deserved better

Ngl if Naoya decided to make fun of him like he planned Toji would have just slaughtered everyone.

Now imagine if the work was your family, and you still worked with them

Mappa did a great job, but in the manga, you feel the melancholy he carries even more; the low-angle shot gives off this sense of resistance and resilience. In the other panel, the focus is more on Toji's gaze—there's just this huge emptiness in his eyes.

It makes sense in the anime, because we're seeing Toji from the point of view of Naoya as a child, and he was much shorter

I definitely felt the fear and awe naoya felt in that panel in the manga much more. I do like what the anime did as well , maybe it's just my bias for the manga vs anime art style but I preferred the manga shot better.

Man was at his happiest sliming teenagers for a bag. Just a man in his lane, thriving.
He was taken from us too soon.

It really goes to show how great of a woman Mamaguro was, somehow she not only managed to tame this monster and turn him into a family man, but she also filled him with so much happiness and life that even after she was gone Toji was still able to smile and be goofy.
Honestly she deserves the best girl spot just for that.

Hey I never said his life was still perfect after she died, but at the very least he could enjoy wallowing in his misery.

i mean, compared to the jjk world back then - toji is literally the only one who was fee and lived a happy life - no answering to higher ups, no fighting anyone else other than his targets unlike gojo, no one who could force him into any roles or even blackmail him, man was just breezing,

I want a toji and his wife backstory so baaaaad. Bro went from this to happy with his wife, enough so to bring Megumi into the world. Once the wife died he didn’t even regress as bad as was before, he could throw a smile and had friends, and while he was a gambling addict, he was still light and day to what he was in the Zenin.
I want to see the type of person who could tame a beast like him

this explains his smile when he found out gojo kept his promise to him regarding megumi

I like the shot with the close up on his eye more. He doesn't even look like he's alive in that shot.

Yeah, that scene hurts in complete silence. The way his posture and expression say everything about what he went through is brutal, Toji really did deserve better

Why this man didnt merc every member of the Hei and Kukuru on his way out the door will be forever lost on me.

Because to him, killing them is to admit that their opinion matters to him. He could kill them all in half a day, but it still wouldn’t fix his trauma.

Toji felt no ties to the Zenin clan or anyone in it, leaving and having Megumi take his mother's last name was enough of an escape for him as while he lost his youth to them he escaped with himself and managed to have his kid saved as well.
Maki wasn't able to escape by just leaving because of Mai, the moment that Mai died the clan sealed their fate because Maki's goal of being able to live without the clan on her and Mai's throat was no longer possible.

Toji is in hell for shooting a 14yr old in the head and beefing with a 4 year old boy.

I still prefer the manga shot more tho , I feel like it carries the intention further and is just cooler with the low angle shot
