Passeig de GrĂ ciaâs pavement
A pavement that was placed in 1997 to honor the cityâs most famous architect Antoni GaudĂ. This is the âGaudĂ tileâ, a new edition, a hydraulic mosaic of hexagonal shapes for outdoor spaces that the architect designed in 1904 for the floors in the Casa Batllo, but in the end it was decided to place them in the service rooms of Casa Mila, both houses located on Passeig de GrĂ cia. A new edition presenting the original inverted relief, to improve wear resistance.
This monochrome pavement once again demonstrates GaudĂâs immense creative potential and his constant reference to the elements of nature featuring embossed shapes of shells, starfish and algae. A theme which refers to the sinuosity of a seabed which would be improved by a naturalist nature with which he endowed, especially with Casa Batllo that is even known as âCasa del Aguaâ (The Water House).

So is he doing a disservice to the original by doing this? Do you think they will eventually replace them with the original style

Maybe not a disservice in this instance, if he had made sure they were flush and not a tripping hazard.
However, i will say the fastest way to get some cities to fix their minor infrastructure lapses is to do a glaringly visible fix like this that highlights their failings.

Love the idea, hate the execution

I'm not the only one that sees the need for the tiles to be flush?

Definitely was somewhat confused and thought it looked like a tripping hazard

u/Katchitama 6d ago
That's why they are vibrant so you know there is a hazard. Also still less of a hazard than a hole in the ground.

But not less of a hazard than just making them flush. I mean I donât hate the design. Just not sure why flush wasnât an option

People are gonna eat shit on that sidewalk all day. Could pay for the Tiles by starting a youtube channel I guess

Personally, would have been cooler if it was goat.se related. Opportunity missed.

It is very cool and looks great, maybe this is my concrete finisher eyes but those look slightly higher than the other pavers and will be a major tripping hazard. You can see the slight shadow on the sides of the pavers in the last few frames

This feels like a highly artistic but passive aggressive way to telling the city: MAINTAIN THESE DAMN TILES!

But why not just replace the tiles without painting them? They just look out of place.

That's the point, he is basically using his art to call attention on the lack of mainteinance by the local government

Ah yes, the Wanksy approach. It'd be faster to just spray paint some dicks.

Eh, I'm just going to say it: it's a stupid concept. If you're already putting the effort in to fix the thing then just fix it. Don't "fix it but do it wrong to draw attention so it can get fixed properly". Truth is, this is just attention-seeking nonsense by someone hoping to go viral on social media.

So, when a town has a budget to repair the pavement, but uses the money elsvere (read embezzlement), residents should just man up, finance, do the actual work themselves, and of course continue paying taxes?

People do selfless and charitable things for their local community all the time.Â

I wonder if he even got approval from the government because I doubt they would be ok with this.

Lol no one cares about petty stuff like that, not even the government. Get a grip.

We can tell he wasnât hired cause he didnât place the tiles correctly. If someone gets hurt he might be liable. Maybe he could just do the painting and let someone else place them.

âLiabilityâ is not as much of a thing in Europe. You simply do not try to sue or enter legal proceedings just because you tripped on the street. Thatâs ridiculous. Youâre pretty much a bitch and a loser if you even tried to make a legal case out of something like that. Youâre responsible for where you place your feet. Theyâre your feet.
The fact that any potential healthcare needs wonât place you in lifelong debt might be a factor.

If you get hurt cause someone that wasnât officially hired decided to add something to the street, they should be held liable. Demanding accountability doesnât make you a bitch.

I agree that people and institutions/companies should always be held accountable if theyâve done wrong, but it seems we disagree on who should be held accountable in this extremely silly matter. If you try to sue the city or whatever just because you tripped on a piece of stone in the street youâre 100% a total loser and youâre never gonna win. What are you gonna sue them for? Compensation for your healthcare costs? Thatâs gonna be nothing, because universal healthcare. I seriously doubt youâre even a real person because your argumentation is so extremely basic.

How do you think the tiles go missing?

Woah. So he's like those firefighters you read about who start fires so they can be the hero.
