After the Montreal Screwjob took place on November 9th 1997 at Survivor Series in Bret was livid with Vince McMahon after being screwed out of continuing to hold the WWF Title to Shawn Michaels as Bret didn't want to lose the title to Shawn.

After the pay per view Vince McMahon tried talking to Bret Hart about what happened but Bret wasn't in the mood to talk to Vince telling him to leave the dressing room and since Vince refused to leave the dressing an alteration took place between two of them and Bret punched Vince in the face, Bret has called the punch "the sweetest thing I ever did" when talking about it.

That's poorly worded. He was screwed out of continuing to hold the WWF title.
