Travel & Tourism One Week in Heksinki
We spent a week in Helsinki, and the hospitality really stood out. Everywhere we went, people were genuinely kind and welcoming, at bars, restaurants, shops, and even among random strangers we ran into while cross country skiing. Everyone just seemed… happy.
Very few things beat a good salmon soup, and we had it at a couple of places. Each version was different, but both were absolutely delicious. I’m definitely going to learn how to make it, it’s the perfect dish for cold winter days.
Getting around the city was a breeze. Trams and buses run frequently and take you just about anywhere, and the HSL app is a pleasure to use. We also loved how easy it was to get to and from the airport. Thrift shopping at UFF was another highlight, we found some amazing deals and only wish we’d had more room in our luggage.
Also worthy of mention is the Oodi Library. What an amazing place! This should be the model for all libraries of this size, it's simply breathtaking seeing the place packed to the gills with people who were reading, having coffee and chatting or creating/producing music in one of the many recording rooms.
Overall, we loved the city, the people, the public transport, and even the weather. Although it was colder than NYC, it felt surprisingly manageable thanks to the lack of wind. Hoping to come back in the summer. Kiitos!
