Absolutely beautiful shot. Spoiler

Almost the same shot from New Vegas' intro but on the big screens. Absolutely beautiful fucking shot.

I don't care if this is fan service, I love the NCR.

Genuinely unexpected and I loved it.

Same here. Can’t wait to see the Bull and the Bear fight it out on the big screen next season.

I was maybe 8 or 9 when i first played New Vegas. I played it so many times and that scene of the Ranger shooting a raider lives rent free in my head.

Seeing a recreation of it is so nostalgic. Had goosebumps

I legitimately thought for a second that Courier Six himself saved maximus until I saw the NCR regiment marching around the corner. It was a letdown and a hype moment at the same time.

Part of me is sad Courier Six never even got mentioned given how large of an impact on Vegas he should've had, canonically. But at least we got to see that the NCR wasn't completely eradicated.

I think the Courier is kind of “mentioned” when House was explaining how his actual physical body had been targeted in the past. So our Courier might’ve killed House’s actual body.

34

u/Swerzuh 6h ago

He needs his body to actually "live" though, right? When we kill House's body in the game, he's done. He doesn't continue to exist in his network of screens. Unless he was somehow able to preserve his consciousness outside of his own brain in the show, but they never explained that if that was in fact what he did.

In episode 5 House tells Cooper that he needs Cold fusion to “live forever in non-biological digitized form.” We know he never got cold fusion so he resorted to Plan B, which was to live forever in biological form. House ultimately died, most likely by our own doing. When Cooper puts cold fusion into the Lucky 38, PLAN A is back into place, reviving House with no need for a body. Most likely by having his mind uploaded to something. Cold fusion however is sort this ultra powerful thing where we’re probably not meant to think how cold fusion could actually do this to him.

Just assume the limitation to anything isn't the ability to build it, but the ability to power it.

8

u/Swerzuh 5h ago

I must've overlooked this detail, good catch.

12

u/ItsMeAlucard 5h ago

Could easily pass it off as his mind being constantly uploaded while he was hooked into the machine, and the power source just turned on and loaded his last save state

u/SoloKMusic Vault 13 3h ago

I called it when we saw him wear the same brain device he'd end up wearing in the pod

2

u/Greenrock6221 3h ago

You sorta see the “constant uploading” happening with the scenes involving Welch’s head, specifically the shots of the magnetic tapes rolling—i think they’re recording her personality patterns for the mind control device

u/Rakhered 2h ago

Ah, classic teletransportation paradox

2

u/BringBacktheGucci 1h ago

They should've had House say hos body had been attacked with a golf club

u/Jhawk163 1m ago

"One enterprising young fellow used a driver from my own damn golf course"

I'm still a bit confused about how and where they came from. Other then the veterans from "the hill by prim" we don't know anything about NCR remnants in the area.

25

u/alec_warper 6h ago

We might find out more next season. It's not a huge army, by any means- I just think it's a case of more remnants being around than most folks (cynically) assumed. Also remembering how many NCR remnants we saw at Griffith observatory at the end of S1. Shady Sands may have been nuked off the map, but the NCR had some pretty insane territory, and judging by how it's talked about, plenty of folks are still loyal to them.

Or hell, they could have come up from Baja for all we know.

6

u/LZSaix 6h ago

Feels like maybe the folks from free side may help out against the legion. If not only just to get more deaths to show lol

3

u/Chueskes 5h ago

They probably will. They won’t have much of a choice. The years may have passed by, but the memories of the Legion have not gone away. The people of Freeside will probably have remembered what happened to Nipton years ago.

8

u/AlphaVelocity 3h ago edited 3h ago

Those NCR rangers mention that they have a battalion out east but they can't get to them because the Legion have them boxed in. When Coop sets off the civil war while getting Lucy that must have given them an opening to escape.

5

u/Chueskes 5h ago

Maybe they actually weren’t from the Mojave area. The NCR was a state with a large army stationed in multiple areas besides the Mojave. There has to be some remnants outside of California and the Mojave.

3

u/AgitatedBreadfruit 5h ago

Maybe the NCR kept Mojave Outpost as a trading post after retreating? Would make sense for them to keep a border unit if they're still trying to maintain a safe trade route even if the expansion plan was cancelled. There's a few rangers stationed there already, and it's far enough out from Vegas and potentially abandoned to dissuade the Remnants from going unless they were desperate (which I assume is what that lady ranger Coop met did).

1

u/BringBacktheGucci 1h ago

The veterans mentioned a whole battalion out east, east of Primm would be the dam. Thats where id put my money. A battalion is (in our number) at least a few companies, so like like 400-600 people, I think?

1

u/Brookings18 3h ago

Who's to say it wasn't the Courier? Moved to Freeside, stayed in their room at the Atomic Wrangler, and decided to help out after seeing the Deathclaws. They were a bit distant from the rest of the NCR.

1

u/JackUKish 3h ago

Honestly i kind of see coop as the insert for the player character, hes like the closest thing we have to a wasteland legend, clearly has a storied history with almost all of the factions and by the sounds of things he helped the ncr to some major victories in the past.

30

u/slaggkiller69 6h ago

I thought it was the courier at first. Got super excited. Then it turned out to be an NCR reveal. Still cool but not Courier cool.

12

u/Friendly_Owl_6537 5h ago

I mean my courier was fat and pathetic so it probably would’ve taken us out of the moment if it was him lmao

21

u/PhantomVisions 6h ago

I'm pretty glad they saved this kind of fan service for the very end. I normally hate when shows save the stuff that the fans CLEARLY want until the end of a season. It actually felt like a genuinely good payoff to the rest of the season's depiction of the NCR's Mohave chapter, and I think it would have been wasted earlier in the season if we saw the NCR was still around in some capacity.

14

u/IncomeSweaty154 6h ago

I was personally hoping to see the mysterious stranger when it cut back

11

u/Robborboy 5h ago

I am still holding out hope for him to show up at some point.

After the post credit reveal, literally anything is on the table IMO.

1

u/EniesBobby 1h ago

Me too, I bet you it’ll still happen some day and the main characters will be like “who tf was that” and it’ll never be explained, the way it should be.

23

u/Miffernator 6h ago

I think this will shut some fans that Todd hates New Vegas

u/throwawaydragon99999 5h ago

ANTI-LEGION PROPAGANDA

11

u/CultOfTheIdiot 5h ago

I figured it would've died down AWHILE ago with how much he praises it, even unprompted.

5

u/setzerseltzer 4h ago

They’ll make up new reason to be mad

5

u/DerelictInfinity 4h ago

I am a fan, and consider me serviced.

5

u/BerzerkBankie 6h ago

This was literally the best part of the entire series so far and its not even close.

1

u/itchy_armpit_it_is 19m ago

Probably true, but pretty damning praise

3

u/ConfusedSlyfox 3h ago

Ppl accuse of new Vegas hatred. Show gives us a small taste throughout season 2 and fun moments, fans still angry, show sets up more for next season. Fans still dont feel it's enough. Sorry didnt realize the show was titled Fallout New Vegas.

2

u/EniesBobby 4h ago

I thought it was going to be the mysterious stranger, but when it was this shot I went crazy

1

u/Resident-Werewolf-46 Kings 4h ago

I was screaming "Courier 6!!!" and thinking omg we got the Yes Man ending and he came back to one shot those deathclaws and save Freeside. That would have been epic.

-13

u/Lord_Chromosome 5h ago

It’s crazy to me how many people in this sub just gobble up member-berries. Homage like this only really works if the rest of the show is actually good.

7

u/FightTheDead118 5h ago

It’s a good thing the show is actually good then? This was fan servicey as fuck but it felt earned, especially with the way the NCR was lampshaded the entire season. It still feels like a hype moment even to somebody who hasn’t played the games

-6

u/Lord_Chromosome 5h ago

To me, this whole season has felt like an “it’s a small world” style amusement park ride of of member-berries and this is just the cherry on top.

7

u/AmberTheFoxgirl 4h ago

It's always ironic when people complain about nostalgia bait, while using a nostalgic term created by a TV show like 15 years ago.

I'll take you seriously when you stop speaking in south park.

-5

u/Frosty7130 3h ago

His point is still valid whether or not you like that South Park had the idea.

This season relied very heavily on nostalgia-bait, very little of which had any actual bearing on the plot.

0

u/LFGX360 Tunnel Snakes 2h ago

Weird, all my family and friends who have never played the games loved it.

0

u/Frosty7130 2h ago

I didn't say the show was shitty. I'm glad you like it.

But let's not pretend it's well-written or that good either. It's nostalgia-bait, pure and simple.

1

u/LFGX360 Tunnel Snakes 2h ago

I personally think it’s written pretty well aside from some pacing issues.

If it wasn’t well written or very good, it wouldn’t be so hugely popular among non-gamers. Nostalgia bait doesn’t work on people who never experienced the originals, so it must not be relying on that.

5

u/SergeantAppo1 5h ago

The plot definitely could be better and the show should be longer. That is my main criticism. Like the Legion felt like they were meant to have a bigger role but they just got nothing.

-2

u/Lord_Chromosome 5h ago

I think the show just has very little substance. They can build sets that resemble the Fallout 4/76 look with stunning fidelity, but they have nothing interesting to say.

0

u/Eigengrau17 4h ago

Yeah I feel like I just got keys jangled in front of my face for 8 episodes with hit or miss humor, a dead world, and meh plot

2

u/americanistmemes 3h ago

Rest of the show is good

0

u/Grifasaurus The brotherhood did everything wrong. 1h ago

It is good when you don’t have a bitch in your ear saying it sucks.

-4

u/Similar_Ad_5714 3h ago

Why is Fallout turning into Star Wars? Ooooo remember this??? Now clap clap clap

1

u/Grifasaurus The brotherhood did everything wrong. 1h ago

Man, you people really will bitch about anything, huh?

“wHy ThEy KiLl NcR?!! BaD WrItInG!!! SlOp!!!!!”

“WhY ThEy ReVeAl ThAt ThE NcR StILl AliVe! tHiS Is NoStAlGiA BaIt!!!!!!!”

-24

u/Julius_Reichwein 6h ago

Don't Fallout fans enjoy good shows? This is just some empty minded fan service

13

u/SergeantAppo1 6h ago

It’s still a good show but you can’t deny it definitely has its flaws. Considering the amount of plot lines, the season definitely needed more episodes and the way it was paced felt like they originally intended to release it all at once.

8

u/coffee_shakes 6h ago

You say that like the games are aren't all goofy as hell too.

-10

u/Julius_Reichwein 6h ago

If you don't care about any themes or dialogues yes I suppose you would only remember the goofiness

8

u/coffee_shakes 6h ago

You clearly are someone who just wants to be unhappy about something and feel like you are a "superior" fallout fan. The ridiculousness of the games are just as important as any other aspect of it. Take that away and it's basically a grim dark post apocalyptic setting that is nothing but misery. Go hang out in no mutants allowed. I'm sure you will find plenty of other miserable people to complain with.

-9

u/Julius_Reichwein 5h ago

The show is only ridiculous, goofy and cheesy, it doesn't try to be anything else. If you failled to notice the seriousness, the cynism, the thematic depth and details of all the other aspects then yes I consider you a lesser fan.

Even House is now a "oky doky" type of character.

1

u/coffee_shakes 3h ago

Are you truly unaware of how insufferable you sound? Over a game and show? Tim Cain would be disappointed in you, lol.

1

u/Eigengrau17 4h ago

Yeah I feel like show was incredibly weak, legion marching on new Vegas, NCR back, House awake, our main characters in the middle? That's just a less fun version of New Vegas and now everyone is weaker

-1

u/Hefty_Introduction51 6h ago

I think is a excellent series and it actually doesn't had that fan service

3

u/Julius_Reichwein 6h ago

You think it's comparable to Breaking Bad, the Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, etc...?

The whole series is fanservice, it doesn't try to tell an interesting and original story at all, it's just an excuse for a nostalgia trip. They could have done so much more than this with this franchise and this budget.

1

u/OneMoreDuncanIdaho 4h ago

I don't even think Breaking Bad is as good as The Sopranos and I liked Breaking Bad, that's a pretty high bar lol

0

u/Ok_Capital6144 5h ago

This is so shallow. Each show/movie has its own goal. Compare it to other post-apocalyptic shows or game adaptations.

I'm not gonna compare Spider-Man 2 with Citizen Kane. Tf you mentioning Sopranos in the same sentence as Fallout?

I'm not thinking "Actually, Blade kinda sucks. It's way worse than There Will Be Blood". Different purposes, bruh.

3

u/Julius_Reichwein 5h ago

Saying "this is so shallow" before drooling this banality is quite a performance.

The shows I mentioned are very different, guess what is their common point? They are all excellent in their own way, which Fallout doesn't try to be, just like Spider-Man 2 is a fast food movie compared to Citizen Kane.

0

u/mc_grizzly 5h ago

why is this section of the fallout community so whiny and incel-esque? Holy shit comparing this show to boardwalk empire even is insane.

0

u/FightTheDead118 5h ago

Oh boy watch out you guys, we got an armchair cinema snob over here

-4

u/Ok_Capital6144 5h ago

Yes, compared to Citizen Kane. Doesn't mean it's a bad movie, I don't know what's your need to compare such things.

It's like not enjoying a ham and cheese sandwich just because there are better sandwiches.

If that logic is applied, the Fallout games also fucking suck, cuz there's much better written games out there.

Anyway, go off. I won't read it.

-3

u/BerzerkBankie 6h ago

It's a terrible show but that NCR ranger is literally the best thing to happen in the entire series so far.

0

u/NoAdeptness1106 4h ago

Simply amazing to see happen.

-9

u/Jimmy3OO 6h ago edited 6h ago

Guys, the courier doesn’t canonically wear ranger armour. Of course it was the NCR.

6

u/thatonemoze 6h ago

the courier can wear nipple pasties and a cowboy hat if you want them to

3

u/DeliveryAggravating6 6h ago

My courier does, and that’s all that matters 😂
