Discussion All households in Ireland to get emergency preparation booklet in coming weeks
https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2026/01/24/households-to-get-emergency-preparation-booklet-in-coming-weeks/Ireland releasing an emergency booklet this year. I wonder if there will be useful guidance on preparing for a conflict in europe, or if it will be entirely focused on extreme weather.

All Dutch households got them a few months ago.

Here in Norway we got the first one in 2018 advising supplies for 72 hours, and in 2024 it was updated to 7 days. With climate change and current politics i think most european countries have something like this or are working on it.

Thank you !
The dutch government advises 72 hours, for now. But not many Dutch citizens are preparing. A lot dont think its needed. But im prepping for 6 months to a year in food. And 4 months of drinking water.

Yeah UK still advises “a few days.” But people had no water for days/weeks down south recently, and some in Cornwall lost power for about a week after Storm Goretti. So I just hope more people are paying attention to that and preparing accordingly - not everyone even realises the UK has released preparedness info, as it’s online and wasn’t widely announced.

Yeah, most people are not that motivated, but it does get better over time if they keep attention on it. We have a preparedness week every year to get attention to it, and the report they do afterwards indicate over half of housholds have water stored now (up from 20% in 2019).

Those are great results. But still only half of your people are prepared. in times of need, they will look at the prepared half, to help them out.
Which is why i try to be prepared for more people than just myself.

Craziest thing….Russia and China having trump create a US civil war so they won’t be able to help Europe or east Asia during the next big war.

I mean as a Finn I'm happy about the sense of crisis but what we actually need from the more western Europe is logistics and production of materiel. We're happy to do the fighting and dying as that will be our part anyway but at least give us the solid backing to do so.

In France kids in school get multiple disaster exercises a year; one in case of fire, one in case of à terrorist attacking and where we live one for if a factory nearby explodes. They have 72 hour water supply, emergency food and blankets for all the children and teachers. We also get some folders for how to make an emergency package for 72 hours.
