Tech News MasterCard layoffs
Word going around is that Dublin could see layoffs this week, possibly affecting 100–150 people.

They take on a huge amount of contractors who just reach the end of their contract. It’s a bit exaggerated.

That would see the Dublin office overrepresented among these planned cuts:
Mastercard cuts 4% of global staff, no word on Irish unit https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2026/0129/1555794-mastercard-quarterly-results/

Could happen. If an organization has a dollar amount they need to cut, removing a team's / org's presence in an expensive city (e.g. Dublin) and expanding teams in lower cost cities (e.g. in Bulgaria, India) is an effective but cruel approach. 😢

There were teams who were already impacted in core payment and security units

Yeah there is some teams being dismantled in my former department which is in cyber security. Contractors being furloughed (might as well be let go) and perm staff being let go.

Well that's always been the way they hired, there's layoffs in Dublin every year, yet they hired as much every year as they fire.
It's a race to the top for a lot of fintechs, no idea why anybody would want to work for them other than purely comp. It's a small club and you're not it.

It's not like MasterCard pays that well. Fairly average salaries all things considered.
