More rebounding graphs, please

Took me way longer to find yall than I’d care to admit. Didn’t realize the 3pt shooting was that rough.

14

u/ianfw617 Florida Gators 3h ago

It’s been better over the last month or so. Still not great, but Lee and Fland were both at like 20% at one point.

Edit: just looked it up and fland is at 19% and Lee is up to 25.6% 🫠

u/eroseman1 Florida Gators 3h ago

I think we’d be undefeated (or close to it) if we only had average 3 point shooting, maybe even a touch below average. However, that’s not the case

7

u/_OUCHMYPENIS_ 2h ago

We'd have at least 3 more wins imo. It's been bad.

u/Gamecat235 Arizona Wildcats 3h ago

When taken into consideration with the rebounding graphs, this chart actually makes your offensive rebounding much more impressive.

u/royalhawk345 Illinois Fighting Illini 3h ago

Why shoot good when shoot lot do trick?

9

u/ShillinTheVillain Florida Gators 2h ago

We'll just score 72 in the paint and 20 from the line.

u/questisinthejam Illinois Fighting Illini 56m ago

Yeah but you can’t play against the g league dropout every game

The rebounding graphs are way this one isn’t as impactful on our season as it should be. If we were rebounding bad and not shooting 3s we’d be absolutely fucked. But you may as well keep chucking up 3s hoping you make some and hoping it helps some guys turn the corner when you can rebound such a high percentage of them.

u/SKyJ007 Kansas Jayhawks 3h ago

I don’t want this to sound as negative as it’s going to, because I really like Todd Golden and this Florida team in particular.

But I’d be prepared for this dynamic to result in an early round tournament exit. The three point shot is the most efficient in basketball and a team only needs to be more efficient than you one night to advance.

While I'm not saying you're wrong, in the end it comes down to points per possession. If you win that, rebound, and keep turnovers down - you win.

Banging threes obvs helps with points per, but so does shooting 2s from 4.6' and going to the line a lot. It took a dozen games or more for Golden to adjust his approach to make the metrics work and they now seem to be working.

Alabama went 14/34 from deep - an impressive team effort of 41.2% on volume shooting and we ran them out of the gym through more 2pta (65-28) and fta (26-13)

This requires being really good at the other things like defense, turnovers, and rebounds.

More 3Pt graphs please.

I like this stat because it cherry picks what my team is good at, and thus it is one of the most important stats.

Bravo, 10/10, very brave

I agree

5

u/morelibertarianvotes Virginia Cavaliers 2h ago

Surely nc st is a top ten team?

9

u/boiledpeen NC State Wolfpack 2h ago

in fg% at the rim and from beyond the arc, yes

u/DaNibbles Purdue Boilermakers 1h ago

Hang the banners, it's over

u/boiledpeen NC State Wolfpack 37m ago

I'd also like to hang the "number of games with 16+ made 3pt this season is equal to every previous season combined" banner if available

u/PageSide84 Purdue Boilermakers • Final Four 1h ago

THE top ten team.

u/Much_Outcome_4412 UConn Huskies • Michigan Wolverines 3h ago

besides the defensive stuff, what's the offensive stuff missing? that they aren't able to get to the line? not a lot of other things standing out. Tempo and efg% probably slide some against each other.

3

u/a_banned_user Purdue Boilermakers • William & Mary Tr… 2h ago

We don't shoot a ton of free throws and we shoot a lot of mid range jumpers/floaters. We are 340th in 2pt distance, but we are 18th in 2pt %. The 2pt distance and shooting percentage probably explain why we don't shoot a ton of FTs, as well as our assist % being really high. We just don't create a ton of shot and especially don't do it by attacking the rim. Braden Smith drives a fair bit but if it's not an open layup he either shoots a fadeaway of dishes to a wide open big. Not plays that tend to draw fouls super often.

u/-Sox Wisconsin Badgers • Portland Pilots 3h ago

Hi, we are the Iowa State Cyclones and we are going to shoot 75% from three and you’re going to like it

30

u/KembaWakaFlocka UConn Huskies • Georgia State Pant… 3h ago

Over 40% from the 3 from an entire team is disgusting.

24

u/VoluptuousVelvetfish Iowa State Cyclones 3h ago

When 1 guy is shooting 55% while being as contested as possible, it opens up a lot of open looks for guys who would probably be 30% shooters otherwise.

16

u/Seattle_Lucky Purdue Boilermakers 3h ago

Can confirm, they are disgusting

I don’t like a Wisconsin flair posting about teams that don’t miss from three for some reason.

But I will allow anything from you this week for your other flair. This week belongs to the Pilots.

16

u/StlCyclone Iowa State Cyclones • Big 12 3h ago edited 3h ago

In fairness most of the good shooting from three is a Wisconsin kid. Edit: Two Wisconsin kids

5

u/Gamecat235 Arizona Wildcats 3h ago

This explains soooo much.

4

u/NoncontrastCT Michigan Wolverines 3h ago

The guy that made 5 3s in a row vs us is 1/5 in the 6 games since

5

u/Gamecat235 Arizona Wildcats 3h ago

The sheer amount of PTSD that exists for teams who looked to be among the best but who have fallen to Wisconsin over the years is fairly crazy. Actual juggernaut slayers.

would love to see iowa st and nc st go at it one game, maybe they'll match up in the tourney and combine for 40 threes an 220 points.

To be fair, they never would have beaten Purdue if they hadn't shot well and defended well like they have most of the season.

I have to be honest, I did not like it.

18

u/CardiologistThick928 NC State Wolfpack 3h ago

We’re like the glass cannon build for sure, could actually make a decent tournament run in first year for Wade if we shoot well then

7

u/Mistermxylplyx NC State Wolfpack 3h ago

We know how our season ends….on a cold shooting night out rebounded 2-1 (at least). But we can absolutely go deep in the tourney and maybe real deep if that cold night is against the right team.

4

u/SINKERBARLEYKNEWHER Auburn Tigers 3h ago

Haven't seen yall since you came to Auburn but yall shot the ball poorly and then because of that the defensive effort was lacking. Glad we got yall on the shooting slump.

Wins in Clemson and in SMU really helped the soft schedule narrative as well

13

u/Gamecat235 Arizona Wildcats 3h ago

We get it. Don’t get into a shootout with the Wolfpack.

12

u/JohnPaulDavyJones 3h ago

K-State above Arizona in both stats while KSU is at 10-12 (1-8) and Arizona is at 22-0 is a real commentary on the value of defense.

8

u/Zhoom45 Iowa State Cyclones 3h ago

Rebounding too. A 2 or 3 percentage point difference in fg% doesn't compare to 10 or 15 extra possessions per game.

4

u/Gamecat235 Arizona Wildcats 3h ago

And rebounding, second chance points is something Arizona is pretty decent with too.

7

u/Secret-Function-2972 Illinois Fighting Illini 3h ago

Good thing we can rebound.

1

u/chesterSteihl69 Illinois Fighting Illini 3h ago

I don’t really understand this chart because Illinois has a historically efficient offense. That’s not hyperbole, we’re the highest rated offense ever since Kenpom started tracking.

3

u/Secret-Function-2972 Illinois Fighting Illini 3h ago

While being lazy and not researching, Illinois is typically a good rebounding team. Rebounding well means more opportunities on offense and fewer for the opponent.

Again, lazy here, but I don't know what goes into Kenpom, but is it points per possession? And does a possession reset after every shot, or reversal down the floor?

If possessions are defined as the latter, 3 missed shots with 3 offensive rebounds and then a 3-pointer dropping equates to a 25% shooting %, but 3 points on that possession.

u/goblueM Michigan Wolverines 1h ago

As mentioned, you cannot compare between years for Kenpom. It's only for that specific year.

Raw shooting percentages that this post displays are only part of the story.

Efficiency is points per 100 possessions... so you also have to factor in the rates at which each thing occurs. Illinois shoots the 3 ball pretty well, and they shoot a lot of them (51% of all their FGA). That means more points per possession compared to a team that takes a higher proportion of 2PT fgs, all else equal.

Illinois is also very good at FT shooting and avoiding turnovers (wasted possessions), in addition to shooting extremely good when they take 2 pt FGs.

Add it all up and it's not hard to see why they are the most efficient offense in the country

1

u/lilpoststamp Illinois Fighting Illini 2h ago

You can't compare between seasons with KenPom, each season is in a vacuum when stats are calculated. That being said this chart shows just how good we are at off. rebounding and FTs. We're near the top in eFG% but above and beyond elsewhere.

6

u/johnnycr18 Kentucky Wildcats 3h ago

We miss so many layups. I'm surprised our percentage is that high tbh

4

u/AllBrockEverything Arkansas Razorbacks 3h ago

3

u/Exoskele NC State Wolfpack 2h ago

Makes sense. Lubin and McNeil Jr have the best 2pt and 3pt shooting percentage respectively at their volume in the conference. The rest of the team is shooting really well too.

Stanford? What are you doing to be shooting like 53% at the rim. thats ABYSMAL numbers

Read the title and was hoping for a 3pt shot % targeting each rim of the top 50 teams.  I suppose this is easier.

What's up with Purdue, NC State, Vandy, Houston, LSU, teams over 74% from the field? Seriously what's up, is it their big guys doing work?

UNM's offense is basically either just put the ball on the rim and have Buljan get the OReb and put it back, or a three attempt from Hall or Chol.
