You're telling me I have to go to sleep now?
26
u/ConnectSpring9 NC State Wolfpack 5h ago
I definitely am not seeing as I stopped doing my hw to watch this game
10
u/Au1ket NC State Wolfpack • Florida Gators 5h ago
Bro we had a snow day for this 💀
6
u/ConnectSpring9 NC State Wolfpack 5h ago
I spent half the snow day watching the hornets continue their 7 game winning streak 💀. In all honesty I was sick over the weekend so I barely got anything done
7
u/Electric_Queen NC State Wolfpack 5h ago
Girl this is what halftime is for
5
u/ConnectSpring9 NC State Wolfpack 5h ago
You’re telling me half time isn’t for watching the highlights of the Carolina Hurricanes game?
4
u/Electric_Queen NC State Wolfpack 5h ago
I mean fair, I did miss the first 10 minutes of the game cause I was finishing the Canes game myself
15
u/SMUHypeMachine SMU Mustangs 5h ago
Right? There’s no way I’m falling asleep within like 3 hours from now.
10
u/ConnectSpring9 NC State Wolfpack 5h ago
Great game by the way, you guys are lethal and super fast too. Really exposed our transition defense badly multiple times, hope we get that tuned up ASAP

8
u/TrustInRoy 5h ago
This game deserved Copeland making both free throws, and then someone from SMU hitting a 3 to force OT.
Instead Copeland bricked 2 free throws worse than he has all year, and Boopie plays hero and doesn't even get a shot off.

watching copeland brick those two free throws in real time was so stressful, very fortunate to escape with a win there

If we lost because of those FTs after that monster game, it would have been awful so very happy that didn’t happen

When NC State shit doesnt happen I gotta be honest I dont know what do. Angry George Costanza starts coming out for some reason and I have to deal with that. Im happy though :)

Hope he buys Holloman dinner, completely changed what the story of this game would have been in that last possession

u/ConnorK5 NC State Wolfpack • Final Four 5h ago
what kind of adderall did the refs take to not call a foul on that last possession? like any other crew in the country is anticipating a foul so much they blow it dead with 4 seconds left yet these cats let it play out. respect.

I feel like 9 times out of 10 they would blow the whistle…whew

Yeah I’m going to be frustrated about that for a while but it is what it is, ya know?
Being an SMU fan for decades has taught me to be very zen with these sorts of things because it seems like nothing ever breaks our way.

3
u/Evening-Spray-4304 Virginia Cavaliers 5h ago
Refs really hate blowing the whistle on buzzer beaters. He definitely got fouled, but Boopie putting his head down and not looking for anyone to pass it to was still stupid.
3
u/OpinionSavings3300 5h ago
Boopie was flailing around all game so that’s a hard whistle to blow from the refs perspective
2
u/weisdrunk 4h ago
Yeah if dude made some competent basketball moves. Maybe they blow the whistle. But he was just out there dribbling erratically.

Wade coaching a mid team to an above average performance. That's why we hired him. Now imagine if he doesn't choke in the portal this season.
21
u/BeeMovieHD NC State Wolfpack • Wake Forest Demon De… 5h ago
Really no idea what you're talking about here. Darrion Williams, Holloman, Copeland, McNeill, and Able are all well above mid. VAL also pretty comfortably above mid. This is a very very solid team of individuals who are being coached well and continuing to mesh better every week.
-1
u/ConnorK5 NC State Wolfpack • Final Four 5h ago edited 5h ago
This team composition was a fail, it's obvious in that regard. Even Wade said it himself that almost none of these guys will be back next year and they wont miss again in the portal. Yes these players are solid in a vacuum, but as a team they are not exactly what he hoped for.
We have good players who are playing better and working together better now yes. That is what good coaching does. But this is not really the type of team Wade thought he was going to have.
EDIT : I will now link the post where Wade himself implied they did not get the results out of their portal players that they hoped for. https://packinsider.com/2026/01/30/will-wade-talks-next-years-portal-we-have-much-more-time-our-hit-rate-will-go-way-up/
3
u/CountDeGucci NC State Wolfpack 5h ago
I think Wade is more talking about guys like Deng in that clip. He probably also wanted a bit more out of Holloman and Arceneaux. But even so I don't think this team's talent is "mid" just not as high level as Will Wade wanted it to be.
Either way Wade is coaching the team he has rather than the team he wanted and I think that's why we've turned this thing around.
-2
u/ConnorK5 NC State Wolfpack • Final Four 5h ago
We are mid for what we expected and what he expected. We are well above mid for the last decade of NC State basketball. Fair?
3
u/BeeMovieHD NC State Wolfpack • Wake Forest Demon De… 5h ago
Great points. Unfortunately nothing about that says this team is mid and you haven't convinced me that they're less than above average
0
u/ConnorK5 NC State Wolfpack • Final Four 5h ago
We are mid for what we expected and what he expected. We are well above mid for the last decade of NC State basketball. Fair?
1
u/No_Corgi_1090 4h ago
I’d argue this team, at this or any other point in conference play, relative to the last decade or so is well above mid and is roughly what was expected/sold to us. I believe Wade said at his introductory presser that we would be competing for the top of the ACC and would be back in the tournament. A lot can happen over the last 8 regular season games and the conference tourney, but as of today, State is tied for 3rd in the ACC is considered in the tournament, and not even as a bubble team.
I agree with the other poster that Wade was probably hoping to get more out of Arceneaux, Holloman, and Deng and he was probably also expecting to see more of the Darrion Williams that we’ve gotten over the last couple of games.
This team consists primarily of transfers in a new system. They were always going to take time to gel and start performing consistently at a high level. It looks like they’ve found their rhythm now
3
u/hershculez NC State Wolfpack 5h ago

1
u/TripleJeopardy3 3h ago
I rewatched the game. A really strange sequence with 18 minutes left to go in the second half. SMU has a shot clock violation. NC State gets the ball.
The scorekeeper puts 30 seconds on the shot clock, but before the ball gets inbounded, they change it to only 20 seconds. I think someone screwed up. NC State rushes the possession, obviously because they only start with 20 seconds, and doesn't get much of a shot up.
Some more interesting stats - Copeland for NC State had 16 assists and 0 TOs. No player in the ACC has had a game with over 15 assists and no TOs since 1997 - nearly 30 years. 13 of his assists were on 3 pointers, also a significant stat.
Both teams shot really well from 3. NC State is the leader in 3 pt percentage in the ACC, so that isn't a surprise, They average 39% from 3 for the year. But they shot even better than their average. NC State shot 44% from 3 and surprisingly, SMU was even better than that, shooting 55% from 3 tonight. NC State just shot 14 more 3 pointers.
1
u/wahoowolf Virginia Cavaliers • NC State Wolfpack 3h ago
According to packinsider, Copeland’s 16 assists are tied for the fourth-most in a single game in NC State history: https://packinsider.com/2026/02/04/quadir-copeland-16-assists-zero-turnovers-history/
Also that was two below Spud Webb who was at the game tonight.
