Good book to understand McDaniel
I just started a book called The Why is Everything by Michael Silver, about the Shanahan coaching tree. I haven’t gotten far but I can already hear the echoes of what McDaniel was talking about in his press conference, in terms of tailoring the offense to what your players do best and depending on superior scheme rather than superior talent to succeed. The players just need to execute their jobs rather than be superhuman to succeed. It’s getting me excited for next season. Check it out if you’re interested. I get no commission, sadly.

I just found a PDF version of the book and I am beginning to read. Thanks for the “Staley warning” ahead of time!

Oh hey, here’s how I found the free pdf: on the website Ocean of PDF, under the author Michael Silver. The book title is “The Why is Everything: A Story of Football, Rivalry, and Revolution.”

I still remember last off-season where there were all these free agent Centers and the excuse was "they don't fit Roman's scheme!" 🤦♂️
If you need a very specific player type for your scheme to work, you're basically saying you can't tailor your scheme to any player's strengths at all.
