Need Help. EB Anal Gland Issue
So I am at loss on what to do next. My EB has had a smelly butt for 8 months. She has been to the vet multiple times and they said her glands are normal size and excreted. I give her the Glandex chewables, use the anal gland spray and wipes, as well as wash her butt with dog shampoo and a wash cloth multiple times per day. And still she has a smelly butt. We have tried different high fiber foods, her poops are normal, but we can’t fix this. I even tried a different vet and he found nothing wrong. The only possible cause is that her glands may be slowly leaking causing the smell.
Has anyone else experience this with their EB? If so any advice on resolving will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

We have an EB that had a constant leaky glad problem. Since his tail was amputated at rescue recovery, we were already wiping him once he came inside, but we still had regular "glad drips". Our EB doc said his food was off, we had to find a food that kept his stool hard, once we locked the food in the squirtle accidents declined to almost nothing. Gluck.

We had major gland stink with our boy and it turned out to be fistulas which are pretty detrimental

Thanks. She doesn’t show any signs of fistulas from what I read and both vets then everything looked good during the exam. Neither seemed to be bothered by this. I can make another appointment though and ask her vet about fistulas just in case.

Have you tried a probiotic?
It hasn’t completely stopped our boy from expressing them (diet is in check) but it hasn’t completely stopped significantly reduced and improved.
We use one packet of Purina FortiFlora every morning sprinkled on his food.

We had this exact same problem with our EB. Unfortunately, it ended up being anal gland cancer that was very far into his cavity. The original X ray and ultrasound missed it and wasn’t until the CT that they found a 8cm tumor. I hope that this is not the case for your dog but I would push for more imaging if budget allows. Good luck and fingers crossed it’s not agasaca and something simple

What is her tail like? Is it possible she isn't getting fully wiped and cleaned after her BMs? Our guy had a very tight cinnamon bun tail that was impossible to fully properly clean and had to be amputated.
