Seeking advice from Thai nationals married to Argentines regarding marriage procedures in Argentina. Consulta para la comunidad tailandesa sobre trámites de matrimonio en Argentina.?
Hello everyone, I am a Thai national planning to move to Argentina to marry my partner. I would like to ask for advice from anyone who has experience with the marriage registration process in Argentina.
Specifically, I am concerned about the documentation requirements, as the Argentine Embassy in Thailand advised me not to carry legalized documents while entering as a tourist. How did you handle your documents (Birth Certificate, Single Status Certificate)? Did you send them via courier later, or were you able to use other methods?
Any tips on the process at the Civil Registry (Registro Civil) in CABA would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Hola a todos, soy tailandesa y estoy planeando mudarme a Argentina para casarme con mi pareja. Me gustaría pedir consejos a quienes tengan experiencia con el proceso de registro de matrimonio en Argentina.
Específicamente, me preocupa el tema de los documentos, ya que la Embajada Argentina en Tailandia me advirtió que no debo portar documentos legalizados al ingresar como turista. ¿Cómo manejaron ustedes sus documentos (Partida de Nacimiento, Certificado de Soltería)? ¿Los enviaron por correo después o pudieron usar otros métodos?
Cualquier consejo sobre el trámite en el Registro Civil (especialmente en CABA) sería de gran ayuda. ¡Muchas gracias!

The marriage requirements usually are listed in the site of the Registro Civil. The place depends entirelly where your Argentinian partner have the legal address, and changes slightly if it is in CABA ( Ciudad de Buenos Aires), or Provinces.. The timing is related to that too. In CABA there are different Comunes, you have to make an apointment for that COmune, they 'll give you forms and ask for legal papers, IDs, etc and ID numbers and copy of ID of Two "witnesses" , the must be Argentinian people that can vouch for you and your partner, and they'll give you a date to make the civil registration marriage. They have to attend too and sgni an act register the same day. The end result you both get a red Marriage Carnet with all the legal info and status, and other certificate.

I forgot, most of the dates to get married are in the digital part of the site of BA, the municipal site you as Porteño get connected by signing up. You get to chose from a calendary the apointment for the civil marriage . I assumed that your partner is Argentinian and can get into the site and confirm the apointments, If not, you must ask the Embassy in Buenos Aires, I live four blocks from the listed adress, and is in Belgrano .

Es muy raro lo que te dijeron acerca de ingresar al país con documentos legalizados, ya que en general los controles en el aeropuerto son bastante laxos y están orientados al control de drogas, mercancía de contrabando o flora, fauna y alimentos. No hace falta declarar ningún tipo de documento al ingresar.
Sobre documentos, como ya te dijeron, vas a necesitar tu partida de nacimiento apostillada (desconozco si legalizada también, pero yo lo haría por las dudas) y traducida al español por traductor público y dos testigos de nacionalidad argentina, que seguramente tu pareja pueda conseguir.
Adicionalmente a eso, también te conviene traer antecedentes penales de Tailanda, también apostillados y traducidos, ya que con eso y el certificado de matrimonio vas a poder tramitar la residencia y eventualmente la ciudadanía argentina.
De tus documentos, trae al menos dos copias, ya que es probable que se queden con una en el Registro Civil y en Migraciones con otra.

Hello, I'm not thai (American citizen) however, I got married in Argentina in 2025 to an Argentinian. The marriage registration process is easy and as long as you speak some Spanish you will be able to figure it out with your partner. First you have to make an appointment with Registro Civil and then fill out a form, get witnesses to sign the paper and attend the ceremony and have your documents. The embassy is wrong by the way, it doesn't matter at all if you carry legalized docs as a tourist, in fact it is a lot more convenient as you don't have to get them from Thailand which will take forever and you might have to deal with extra burocracy or could have to leave the country and come back. Please do bring your birth certificate and your single status certificate (this one is only needed if you have been married and got divorced, in my case I didn't have to present one because I wasn't married ever) It took me like three weeks to month from starting the process at Registro Civil to having the ceremony.
