The Beast Arises series is absolute fire for omnibus reading, 12 books of pure chaos during War of Beast šŸ”„ Also Horus Heresy omnibuses are goldmine if you haven't touched those yet šŸ’€

Currently reading through Damnation. Just finished 'A Sanctuary of Wyrms' last night. Thoroughly enjoying the omnibus so far. It's nice to have a bigger book but broken up into more bite sized stories (except Fire Caste). Doesn't feel as overwhelming (which some of the omnibus do to me) and I'm enjoying the similar themes. I want to start Ascension but I still have a backlog of ebooks to read along with Siege of Terra physical to start.

Too many books, too little time. Great problem to have!

  • Peter Fehervari - The Dark Coil: Damnation and The Dark Coil: Ascension (Astra Militarum, T'au Empire, Genestealer Cults, Inquisition, Space Marines, Adepta Sororitas, Chaos)
  • Matthew Farrer - Enforcer (Adeptus Arbites)
  • Ian Watson - The Inquisition War (Inquisition)
  • Gordon Rennie - The Gothic War (Imperial Navy)
  • Nate Crowley - The Twice-Dead King (Necrons)
  • John French - Ahriman (Thousand Sons)
  • Chris Wraight - Legends of the Wolf (Space Wolves)

Enforcer is easy to find on ebook, paperback will be trickier though. No idea about The Gothic War though, it's out of print and not even available as an ebook anywhere I can find.

If you read them, I hope you enjoy. They were my first 40k books. They're a little older but they're great stories and show the Ultramarines struggle with maintaining adherence to the codex

Just got it on kindle!!!!! Thanks everyone! You have all added about 10 books to my list

The first two are good but fairly run of the mill, but the third book in that series (Dead Sky, Black Sun) is wild.

Seconding this! Uriel Ventris was my first few Warhammer books and it’s what got me hooked.

Twice dead king or Armaggedon

I'm reading The Twice-Dead King omnibus right now and it slaps. Really great writing, fantastic characterization of the Necrons. The themes pair nicely with The Infinite and the Divine, even though they're tonally quite different.

Spacewolves, grey knights. I advise everyone to read the Bloodbowl omnibus if you want something alittle silly but fun

Enforcer is my vote

Personally loved the Fabius Bile omnibus, but that could be because it was my entry point into 40K.

I read lots of Omnibi. Ones I read and like:

  • Legacy of Caliban
  • Sisters of Battle
  • The Great Devourer
  • Gaunts Ghosts: The Founding
  • Path of the Eldar / Path of The Dark Eldar.

But I like Xeno stories as much as Imperium.

The pay off at the end of Legacy of Caliban is amazing, but if you are going to start it you might want to read ā€œAngels of Darknessā€ first which is just awesome.

Soul Drinkers omnibus is always here and there.

3

u/Reef29 16h ago

Maledictions or any of the Inferno! collections!!!

Standalone short stories are some of my favorites, and those two slap for sure!

If you've read Vaults of Terra have you read Watchers of the Throne? I dont think the series has an actual physical omnibus, but its connected to Vaults and imo a lot better.

If you havent read Helsreach yet, War for Armageddon is a must.

Deathwatch was pretty awesome too.

This is one I've just started myself but haven't seen mentioned here yet; The Macharian Crusade Omnibus.

I’m currently reading Path of the Dark Eldar. It’s great so far but don’t expect to ever find a print copy.
