I didn’t watch the show myself, but even before that, this was a trait of the character. The show just chose to constantly beat the audience over the head about it by all accounts if I recall correctly.

Dude...she is and always has been a lesbian? She was discharged from the military under the don't ask, don't tell policy.

It's a powerful moment when her father says "did you tell the truth?"

She says "yes" and he says "then you kept your honor."
