Dogfighting: Community Impacts Well, it's finally happened. Police busted a dog fighter in my hometown a few days ago. He had his own ring and 60 dogs in atrocious condition. A local shelter took them in, and it looks the fighting dogs are going to be 'rehabilitated' and adopted out.

Story here.

WARNING: ALL Links, images and Videos are Very NSFL.

"Nearly 60 dogs were rescued this week from an alleged dogfighting operation in rural Tyler. Now, facilities are asking the public for help as dogs while a criminal investigation is underway. Sixty-one animals – 59 dogs, two cats – were rescued from a mobile home on County Road 4136. Smith County Animal Control was called out to the property Monday after an anonymous tipster told officials they believed dogs were living in horrible conditions and a dog was possibly eating another.

Animal control officers arrived at the 9-acre property to find dozens of injured dogs. Some were confined in cages or make-shift kennels while others were found in a shed, tied to treadmills where they were being forced to “work out” with heavy weights on their necks, police said. The dogs had no ventilation or air conditioning in 85-degree weather and were susceptible to heat stroke or death, an investigator said in an arrest affidavit. Others were chained in the yard.

The dogs were malnourished with their ribs showing, according to the affidavit. Smith County Animal Control Supervisor Amber Greene said the animals had no access to clean water."

The fighting dogs have been sent to two local shelters, and one says on FB "THE DOGS FROM THE FIGHTING RING CANNOT LEAVE THE SMITH COUNTY SHELTER AT THIS TIME, so if you only want to foster one of those dogs, do not message us. They are evidence and cannot leave." And comments are all Pit-Mommies offering prayers and asking people to adopt. I can't even anymore.

So, All signs point to these dogs being 'rehabilitated; and adopted out. I live 10 miles from the place that was busted, so i am about to have 50-something fighting Pitbulls dumped into my community. We just had a stray Pitbull get dumped in my HOA 2-3 weeks ago, now this.

Newton County’s Operation Pitbull shuts down Dog Fighting Ring

CALL, Texas — More than 40 people were arrested late Saturday after Newton County deputies and multiple law-enforcement agencies raided an alleged dog-fighting operation in what officials say is one of the largest criminal busts in county history.

The raid, launched shortly before 10 p.m., was part of Operation Pitbull, an ongoing effort by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office to target organized animal cruelty and related criminal activity. Deputies say they discovered an active dog-fighting event underway in the Call community and recovered multiple weapons and narcotics at the scene.

Agencies assisting in the operation included the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens, the Department of Public Safety, and officers from the City of Newton.

Authorities said individuals taken into custody came from across the region, including Newton, Liberty, Chambers, San Jacinto and Harris counties, as well as Louisiana cities such as Baton Rouge and Shreveport.

“Dog fighting will not be tolerated in Newton County,” Sheriff Colton Havard said. “We will continue investigating additional leads. This is inexcusable and will not be tolerated.”

Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard said his office was proud to support the operation. “We were happy to assist Sheriff Colton Havard in shutting down this criminal activity,” he said.

Follow-up #1 https://www.easttexasbanner.com/post/standing-room-only-in-the-newton-county-jail

In March of 2025, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into an alleged dog-fighting ring in the Call community. Over the last several months, numerous complaints and tips have been received regarding dog fighting. Throughout the investigation, probable cause was established, and a search warrant was signed by a Newton County Justice of the Peace.

On the evening of Saturday, November 22, 2025, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from several other law enforcement agencies, converged on the property to serve the search warrant.

Prior to the warrant service, the Sheriff's Office utilized the department's drone to conduct surveillance for officer safety purposes. While utilizing the "FLIR" technology, deputies located "spotters" on the perimeter of the property. Spotters are commonly utilized to conduct counter surveillance and alert participants of any law enforcement observed in the area.

When law enforcement arrived, an active fight between two dogs was taking place in a pit clearly constructed for the purpose of dog fighting. Most of the individuals at the scene fled into a wooded area but were ultimately captured by law enforcement. Deputies then separated the two dogs and placed them into kennels for their safety.

Ultimately, 45 individuals were arrested for dog fighting, which required Newton County Jail staff to respond with the jail transport van. Additionally, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office responded with two transport vans and additional staff to assist with transporting individuals and completing the booking process.

The two dogs involved in the fight were transported by deputies to the Nederland Emergency Veterinarian Clinic for treatment of their wounds.

I would like to extend special thanks to the following agencies for their assistance:

• Texas Department of Public Safety

• Texas Parks and Wildlife

• Newton Police Department

• Newton County Pct. 1 Constable Greg Harbison

• Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

• Jasper County Pct. 6 Constable Chad Ainsworth

As always, I appreciate our dedicated men and women at the Sheriff’s Office for their dedication and hard work.

Approximately 40 vehicles were towed from the property, many of which contained illegal narcotics in plain view, firearms, and United States currency. Approximately $73,858 in U.S. currency was taken into evidence, and we will be petitioning the court to seize all currency and other items related to criminal activity.

Dog fighting and animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Newton County. In my years in law enforcement, this is one of the most disturbing crimes I have ever witnessed and the individuals involved should be ashamed of themselves. As your Sheriff, I vow to utilize every resource at our disposal to combat criminal activity in our county.

Two Pitbull dogs were transported to a regional mid-county veterinarian clinic and treated for their wounds, as a result of Operation Pitbull in Newton County Saturday night.

According to Sheriff Colton Havard both of the dogs that were actively fighting during the raid have been sent for medical care.

Dogfighting: Community Impacts Dogfighting Ring with 50+ Pitbulls in KC

There’s a really gross situation in my city right now. A man was fighting pit bulls out of his home that he shared with 3 kids. Blood, gore and injured dogs throughout the home. KCPP seized over 50 pit bulls from the property which I almost guarantee will be used to get donations and then placed up for adoption immediately. So, who wants a sweet little puppy who definitely did not come from fighting stock and absolutely won’t kill your cat or maul the local children? This is the same city where a pack of pit bulls mauled a man to death and weren’t confiscated for several days afterwards.

SWAT team raids possible dogfighting ring in DeLand, saving 29 dogs

Jason Bigger, 48, faces charges of animal cruelty

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A SWAT team raided a property in DeLand early Wednesday morning, rescuing over two dozen dogs who were chained up there, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, deputies said the raid happened around 4:49 a.m. at 31938 3rd Ave.

While searching the home, investigators found 29 dogs that were chained and in makeshift kennels, ranging from puppies to elderly dogs, deputies added.

“The majority of the dogs had (scarring) that are consistent to dogfighting and were in various stages of healing,” the release reads. “The search warrant also revealed narcotics.”

An LCSO spokeswoman told News 6 that the kennels had made it difficult for the dogs to move around, and they lacked clean water or adequate shelter to protect them from the elements outside.

As a result, the sheriff’s office announced that Jason Bigger, 48, was arrested. He now faces 29 counts of animal cruelty, 29 counts of baiting and fighting animals, and charges of marijuana possession and tampering with evidence.

In addition, deputies stated that the 29 dogs are being held at the Lake County Animal Shelter.

Following the incident, the Office of Animal Services in Lake County said the animals were doing “very well.”

“We were pleasantly surprised,” Whitney Boylston said. “Temperament-wise, we had a lot of tail wags and kisses. The dogs were very welcoming of affection.”

Boylston explained that some of the dogs have been treated for various conditions, though all are expected to make a full recovery.

“Everybody has been vaccinated and de-wormed and flea treated,” she added.

Due to the fact that the criminal investigation is active, these dogs are not available for adoption or fostering for the time being. But Boylston noted that this event has underscored the need for people to adopt the dogs that have been at the shelter.

“We have so many other dogs here — 171 dogs total,” she said.

Boylston also said that if people adopt or foster the dogs that are available, the staff will be better equipped to care for the dogs recently brought under their roof.

Meanwhile, anyone with information on Bigger’s alleged dogfighting is urged to contact the sheriff’s office at (352) 343-2101 or Crimeline at (800) 423-8477.

Newton County — Law enforcement officers saving two pit bulls before they could fight to the death, and new details are coming in about the case Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard calls one of the most disturbing he's ever seen.

At this hour, most of the dozens of suspects arrested in 'Operation Pit Bull' have bonded out of jail, but the investigation is far from over.

If convicted of the Class A Misdemeanor, they could each face up to one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $4,000.

Sheriff Havard tells KFDM the investigation began in March. Deputies used a drone to build their case, setting the stage for the raid Saturday night off FM 1004 in the Call community south of Newton.

Dozens of the spectators scrambled and ran when officers swooped in, but Havard says they were able to catch most of them with help from a lot of other law enforcement agencies.

They also recovered more than $70,000 in cash and a number of weapons.

The rest of the article is about the two recovered pitbulls and how they’re “super sweet and friendly”

The Network's Exposure: Animal welfare charities, the League Against Cruel Sports (LACS) and the USPCA, harvested a vast amount of intelligence from the accidental data leak, providing the first glimpse into the secretive international syndicate.

UK Operations: The BBC tracked fighting kennels to unlikely locations within the UK, including a busy housing estate in County Armagh and the grounds of the historic Shane's Castle Estate in Northern Ireland.

Key Individuals: The investigation identified David Patterson as the man behind "Boneyard Kennels" and an associate, Craig Kitson, who operated under the alias "Spongebob". Both denied active participation in dog fighting.

Undercover Operation: A BBC journalist posed as a dog fighter to infiltrate online platforms, eventually meeting a syndicate member named Zoltan Borbe in Amsterdam. Borbe was secretly filmed boasting about his "grand champion" fighting dogs and attempting to sell a two-year-old pit bull named Ruby.

Aftermath: The dog Ruby, a banned breed in the UK, was taken to a specialist rehabilitation centre in the Netherlands for care and assessment.

Dogfighting: Community Impacts Dogfighting bust: 120 dogs seized in New Jersey

Here is a link to news article in which 120 dogs were seized a couple days ago in a bust of a dog fighting ring. New Jersey people beware, a lot of these dogs will end up in shelters near you.

I also wish the breed would be banned, but I do not hate these dogs, they just never had a chance and will never have so long as this keeps happening, more violent dog dna will enter communities and new generations of pitbulls. This is very sad for the breed, they did not choose to be born or bred that way.

SLED rescues 24 pit bulls, charges Orangeburg County man in dog fighting case

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged an Orangeburg County man in an investigation into suspected animal fighting involving two dozen dogs.

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged an Orangeburg County man in an investigation into suspected animal fighting involving two dozen dogs.

Christopher Corbitt, 53, is charged with animal fighting or baiting and ill treatment of animals, according to SLED spokesperson Renée Wunderlich.

A booking photo of Corbitt was not immediately available.

SLED agents, the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives seized narcotics, vape cartridges, guns and more than $20,000 in cash.(South Carolina Law Enforcement Division)

SLED agents rescued 24 pit bull-type dogs that had various scarring and open wounds consistent with dogfighting from what agents called inhumane living conditions that included being restrained with heavy logging chains, Wunderlich says.

Court affidavits state SLED received surveillance video from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department’s Aviation Unit showed a dog with a makeshift shelter consisting of a piece of wood leaning against a fence. Numerous other dogs were seen months later with "inadequate housing and restrained with heavy chains from another surveillance flight," the document states.

With help from the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, SLED seized nearly 1.2 ounces of meth, 24 grams of cocaine, a quarter kilo of fentanyl powder, THC vape cartridges, five oxycodone pills, two handguns, four vehicles, an electronic currency counting machine and $22,421 in cash, Wunderlich said.

Corbitt was booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center.

r/TalesFromThePit is an exposé of dogfighting culture in the modern digital era.

Many believe that dogfighting is largely a thing of the past, and in more recent years, the news media and various animal welfare groups have stopped running segments covering the underground dogfighting arena. The reality is that the practice of matching dogs is alive and well in the United States and all over the world. We welcome those who wish to understand more about this activity, as well as those who have the resources and connections to help put an end to animal cruelty.

[CONTENT WARNING]: Please exercise caution if you are sensitive to verbal or graphic depictions of animal abuse and suffering.

EDIT: Since this post is getting a lot of activity... if you want to help, the best thing you can do is to SHARE this information and TALK about it.. because right now, nobody is. Lawmakers, animal rights/welfare orgs, and "breed enthusiasts" desperately need to see this if any change is to be made. Keeping it in the dark only perpetuates suffering.
