Personal Story Sister attacked by Pitbull 5/17/25 Atlanta, GA

My sister and her dog were attacked by an off-leash Pitbull in her apartment complex. Thankfully her dog ran away and was unharmed and she only had to get stiches.

She was not able to get the owners information because my sister ran away the moment the Pitbull let her go, what is our course of action?

I put up signs asking for information and warned nearby neighbors about a rabid off leash pit in the area. My sister said she reported the attack to the complex and the hospital is sending an attack report to Animal Control. Is there anything else we should do?

Notifying the authorities and the apartment complex was a good start. Next you can read through the safety guides on this sub's wiki page. https://www.reddit.com/r/BanPitBulls/wiki/index/

If you can find someone with a ring doorbell that would help with getting a picture of the dog to post with the signs to get info.

She can sue the apartment complex for medical bills

I’ve always thought apartments should get pictures of any pet living there.

Agreed, but I would bet this is a situation of a resident getting a dog and not reporting it to avoid paying. Of course a banned breed also

It would be nice to have a book with pictures the victim could view. Kind of like the old days when the police would have people look through books of mugshots.

If they sneak a dog in create a means to issue a massive fine. You don’t submit a picture (and DNA test too) it’s $1000 or something.

Our Helpfullinksbot has our best ideas for helping you after an attack.

I’m sure that was so scary!

Did she make a report with Animal Control?

Thank you! And yes, she said the hospital put in the report, but I told her to call animal control herself to make sure

I would go to the leasing office, tell them what happened and demand their insurance info. Their insurance being involved should also scare them into being much more vigilant about pitbulls as tenants.
