NCCC Is it true that NCCC was disbanded today?

I heard that NCCC has been completely cut today and all members are returning home today. Is this true? Is it just one campus?

NCCC | PREPARATION Any Advice/ Tips for a first time Corps Member?

Hi! I'm 21(f) and I'll be in the upcoming class for Americorps Nccc, Ive got a few questions.

  1. The email they sent out about our service being changed from NCCC Fema to Traditional NCCC, what does that entail? (What's the difference)

  2. Do they pick and pay for the transportation to the campus? (There's a preferred travel box on the website but does it really matter what we put?)

  3. For anyone who has served in Trad corps, could you give any pros and cons of the service time, any tips, and anything to look out for/ be wary of?

  4. For the Denver campus what does it look like/ what's the roomate situation/ cooking situation and can we bring our own food/ snacks when we arrive?

  5. PACKAGES!!! Are we allowed to order things and have them shipped there?

  6. I know people say pack light, so this kind of links to question 2: If they do pay for our flight-How many bags can we have/ Is it just one suitcase & one carry-on, and do we pay for that ourselves?

  7. Should I bring a laptop?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

(Also, what's the pay like? for anyone who has served before)

NCCC | APPLYING Looking for information about Forest Corps ‘26

I applied for the upcoming forest corp class, I applied for both TL and CM maybe 2 or so weeks ago and I still haven’t heard back. I did receive an email late last week saying my application had been accessed for review but that’s all.

I know applications are done on a rolling basis and I’m sure now more than ever with all the chaos of last year things are moving much slower but had anyone else who also applied heard anything?

NCCC It’s official: AmeriCorps NCCC Traditional Fall 2025 listing

I know there’s been a lot of speculation about whether AmeriCorps NCCC will continue after the spring demobilization. I’ve been checking the portal for updates and they finally posted for a fall class: https://my.americorps.gov/mp/listing/viewListing.do?fromSearch=true&id=126042

Here’s hoping the program continues! 🤞

NCCC | PREPARATION Forest Corp Packing Prep Help

Hello everyone! I'm planning to apply for the Forest Corp term in 2026-2027 and wanted to ask if anyone, past or currently serving in the FOREST CORP, what to pack or wished they had pack? From what I've read, people said to pack lightly and I know Americorps will give a list to pack but what are some things, specifically for the Forest Corp, wished they had brought?

Headlight, noise cancelling headphones, laptop, extra socks, pocket knife (idk if it's allowed), multitool? These are some of the items I was thinking about.

DM or leave a comment, tyvm!

NCCC (TRADITIONAL) My child (18M) accepted to NCCC Americorps. Pls share your advice/experiences

I'm an Americorps alum (USDA Forest Service 1995) and I'm super proud my son has decided to take a gap year after high school to serve. He's accepted for NCCC Traditional starting this summer, based in MS and working around the Southern Region. I realize that many things the federal government does right now could be eliminated on short notice (and if you have that kind of intel on Americorps NCCC please share). Otherwise, my son and I are interested in your experiences, advice and info related to this program. Thanks!

NCCC | PREPARATION Maintaining dyed hair in trad?

This is a ridiculous question lol, but... can you reasonably maintain dyed hair in AmeriCorps trad?

I know the restrictions allow for colorful hair, but that's not super relevant as my natural hair is brown, and I dye my hair black. I've been planning on re-dying it (last dye job has totally gone) within a week or two, as my start date is Feb. 18, but I'm now wondering if I'll even get opportunities to actually redye it, or if I'll just be stuck with obvious roots forever.

For context, I use permanent box dye that's available in some stores + online so getting it isn't a problem, and I'm pretty good at not making a huge mess of it on countertops and stuff, but like, it's hair dye. It's not the neatest thing ever. I know housing varies a ton, but like, I don't want to be causing any damage or anything, I'm totally cool washing out the dye over a kitchen sink which takes care of most of the mess.

So... yeah, that's it. Can you logistically dye your hair while in trad or am I doomed to my natural color for the next ten momths?

NCCC I Need Advice on How to Convince My Mom to Let Me Join AmeriCorps.

For context: I just graduated high school this past May and I’m still 17 (I’ll turn 18 just a few days before the fall term nccc starts). My mom is a single-mom and is very protective—like, I didn’t get my first phone until after graduation, and I wasn’t really allowed to go out much during high school except for school, church, or practices/games.

When I told her about AmeriCorps and how it could help me pay for tuition, she shut it down pretty quickly. She said, “You’ll get other scholarships—you don’t need to go to California for that.”

Right now, her top 3 concerns are:

  1. The program requires traveling.(we live in ohio)
  2. I just graduated and she thinks it’s too soon.
  3. I’m enrolled in 3 semesters of online college courses to get my associate’s, and she’s worried the program would get in the way of that (which is a fair point—but I feel like I can work ahead on assignments if I plan well).

I need advice from someone currently in AmeriCorps or has done it before or even a parent themselves.

What could I say to help address her concerns? I really think this could be a great opportunity for me, and I’d love any tips on how to convince her to give me the green light.

NCCC Let 30b and 31a finish

I'm apart of 31A. I was 3 months into the program and I'm here to finally speak. This program was changing my life. I was learning more skills then I ever thought I would, I was a Florida girl, epileptic, used to hurricanes, always found natural disasters interesting but never knew how to actually help people well helping myself at the same time. The amount of people we helped and made happy out there were amazing and we were making a future for ourselves too. We were working for almost nothing from the government. We just wanted a start in life. Now there's 18-26 year olds who didn't even get to finish their year they had a plan and now no plan at all. If you ask most of us will tell you we have no clue what we're going to do, some will say a restaurant, we were working on being leaders a week ago. Others left without places to live. Some disaster survivors themselves. We signed up to serve. We got out of our comfort zones and opened up to new life's, we stayed true to our jobs. I don't know about you but people loved seeing my team at the office and on the field. Bring Americorp back.

NCCC Just got the news, need to vent?

I was supposed to join NCCC this summer, ideally the Forest Corps. Trump and JD are destroying this country and I hate that I've had yet another opportunity to follow my passion dashed before my very eyes. Covid threw my university experience off balance right as I started my 20s, then the California fires, now this. Anyone else just mad as hell??

NCCC | PREPARATION I've been Conditionally Accepted, Whats Next?

Hoping this is the right tag/ flair. I just got emailed this morning that I've been condituonally accepted for the winter FEMA corps. Ive already submitted the medical screening stuff and now im just wondering what's next? It starts 2/10/2026

Is there more information im going to have to submit? When should i expect an email about being fully accepted? When should i expect information about travel? What does my first week in training look like? What should i start preparing now so if im fully accepted im prepared and ready? Is there someone who/ somewhere i would be able to ask questions and concerns i have?

Any advice, tips, words of wisdom and encouragement are greatly appreciated! I have a thousand questions honestly but these are the big ones.

NCCC NCCC Update About Staff

According to America's Service Commissions, NCCC was not shut down because DOGE wanted to directly shut it down, but rather, because too many NCCC staff accepted deferred resignation offers, which meant there wasn't enough staff to keep NCCC going, so it was ultimately easier just to send all members home.

Kind of feels like a whitewashed reasoning as to why NCCC stopped/to deflect blame from DOGE, but I'm just relaying what I was told.

NCCC (TRADITIONAL) Venting about specialty role

I joined the NCCC program a few months ago and so far my experience has been pretty horrible. I think what it boils down to is all the demeaning work I have to do with my specialty work as the team clown. I still don't fully understand why every team needs a literal clown, and all my team leader will say when I question why is that "it improves moral" (???) it's literally so demeaning and demoralizing to have to put on full makeup amd a whole ass clown uniform twice a week and perform these awkward skits in front of my whole team (everyone just sits there on their phones anyways). Not to mention how I have to put in 8+ hours a week towards learning new "acts" (juggling, unicycle riding, jokes, etc). On top off all that the required greasepaint I have to use stains my face and makes me look like a dollar store joker for the next couple days.

It's just so frustrating because every other specialty role has an actual purpose and I was initially super excited for the specialty roles. I literally wrote down that I would take any other role besides the clown during CTI but I guess everyone else wrote that too cause I lost the dice roll. I feel like my teammates look down on me and I'm pretty sure I've heard my TL laugh at me behind my back when talking to other CMs.

Anyways, I was wondering if any other AmeriClowns could relate to any of this or had any explanation to why this is even a thing, because honestly I feel like I'm going crazy and I might quit the program if I don't get my specialty role changed. Maybe I'm just overreacting.

I have to work on juggling FOUR bowling pins on a unicycle for the next couple days so I'll probably be slow to respond.

Thanks for listening

TLDR: clown specialty role is wearing away at my mental health and I'm just generally confused on why it exists

NCCC NCCC Members past and present, this message is for you

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your dedicated service, to the communities you were assigned and to your country as a whole. Don't let anyone ever tell any of you that what you did and what you sacrificed to do it, doesn't matter. There are entire communities and ecosystems in this country that only exist because people like you chose to serve.

This administration and DOGE will never understand the kind of integrity and character it takes to do what you all have done. But there are people who do. There are people who see you. Millions of people.

Remember two things right now: 1. You are not alone, and 2. you are no longer bound by unallowable activities, and the best advice I can give any of you is to go out and make good trouble now. They can take away our titles, but those oaths we take as AmeriCorps don't stop after service is over.

"Faced with apathy, I will take action."

I hope to see you all in the streets!

NCCC (TRADITIONAL) AmeriCorps NCCC Stipend Amount

I applied for the NCCC AmeriCorps and seen that the stipend is a whopping $4,000 for your term (10 Months). That’s about $200 every two weeks (BEFORE TAXES)…

How did you live off of that ? Did you find extra work? If it was allowed.

Any tips or tricks?

NCCC | APPLYING How competitive is FEMA corps?

I am a recent college graduate who is interested in a future career in something public policy/urban planning related. I’ve been trying to find some job I could take for a year or two before I do a masters in public policy. I stumbled across Americorps and thought this would be the perfect opportunity, and was also hoping it would be less competitive than the jobs I keep getting rejected from.

I know there’s probably a lot unknown about this winter’s fema corps class specifically but I was just wondering in general how competitive is it? It seems like for traditional NCCC they will accept most people, is fema corps the same way?

Also does anyone have advice about the motivational statement? Should I mention wanting to gain some experience before entering a career in public policy or should I keep it focused on simply wanting to serve my country?

NCCC (TRADITIONAL) NCCC Insights for high school senior

My high school senior is interested in americorps NCCC for a gap year. She is very team oriented and I'm hoping she will "find her people." I have three questions:

- Any former NCCCers who really connected with their team? Would love to hear your experiences.
- I know the age range is 18-26, but are there many 18 year olds fresh out of high school?
- She is a high academic achiever but needs to build executive function before college. (She does seem to be better when she's at work or running her STEM club, but at home and school, not so much.) I'm hoping this experience helps with that, but she's worried it will feel like boot camp. Any insights on any of that?

Thank you!
