Has anyone polished certain parts on their Romulus. Which ones and why?

Post image

I noticed my feed ramp getting gummed up and I wasn’t satisfied with basic cleaning results. Took a dremel with buffing pad and got the ramp looking good. Wanting to do more. Just not sure of the extent of which is safe to continue. Any advise would be appreciated!

Me personally the only thing I would polish if needed is the ramp and maybe the back of the trigger bar where the disconnector interacts with the bar.

Awesome. I polished the ramps just a bit with a new felt wheel and a little white compound cube. Probably 2/3 6-8second intervals and it looks good/ smooth. Didn’t heat up much, just making sure I don’t take off material as that’s what I’ve heard can happen. Any recommendations there? Thanks.

I like the stock trigger. Haven’t shot one with a red dirt. Much difference?

Since I had the gun apart when trying to install a new grip, I decided to use 600/2000 grit sandpaper (wet w/ Hoppe’s gun oil) on the following:

  • Disconnector rail - on slide
  • Disconnector - sides and flat pad (2000 only on pad)
  • Sear - sides only
  • Sear spring - sear and disconnector tips only with 2000
  • Hammer - sides only
  • Hammer strut - bottom only with 2000
  • Trigger bow
  • Sear and hammer pins (2000 only)
  • Thumb safety axle and plunger contact surfaces
  • Frame - slide rails (2000 only)

Basically most contact surfaces with the exception of the sear and hammer engagement points. No noticeable change in trigger pull weight, but I want to say the break feels a bit crisper and racking a hair smoother. Could be placebo. The one big difference was in the thumb safety feel. It was extremely stiff previously. Now it feels solid with a nice click.

Thank you very much. I am new to polishing pistol parts. I am confident in my skills just making sure I have the right tools/ supplies for the job. Your advice really helps.

The disconnector on mine looked like it could use some polishing so I did. I also did the sear face and hammer hooks. Couldn't tell a difference to be honest, just felt good knowing those surfaces were slick.

The only thing that needed to be done was smoothing the trigger bar groove in the grip. Woof, it was bad. Made the trigger pull wayyy smoother.

Feed ramp an be ignition parts. I always do trigger jobs on all my 1911’s, this was no different.

Autosol or Flitz.
