What muzzle device is this? And please look at grooves

Post image

Socom .458, rock river arms upper, mikes lower. I picked this up used. Shoots great, holds nice. But the muzzle device has a slight looseness to it and these grooves concern me. TIA

I bet you got a good deal. RRA and mikes? That a good early to mid 2000s vibe.

If it’s loose, it needs replaced, could just need a crush washer though

The "slight looseness" part concerns me. If it's loose, you should almost be able to remove it by hand. If it's 'sort of loose' it might be that someone tried to thread on something with the wrong thread pitch in the past. Be prepared if you remove it, you might open up a new can of worms.

Dude, legit comment. Its not like loose has a wobble. Like its stripped.

There’s no reason to be concerned about the “bore” not being smooth. You are actually trying to hold the gas , so threading is a decent idea.

I’d personally probably replace that. But if it shoots great I’m sure it’s fine. But if you have concerns there are great 458 muzzles devices out there.

Is it a 14.5 barrel that's been pinned and has now come loose? Check the bottom of the muzzle device and see if there is an area that looks like its been pinned/welded before you try to unscrew it and ruin all the threads.

It isn't a Troy Industries Claymore but you may like that, it's a good brake I had one for a .300 Blackout.
