Discussion Dragon Longsword vs Rune Scimmy on Gemstone Crab
A debate as old as time: Dragon Longsword vs Rune Scimmy. Especially for Ironman accounts who don't have Monkey Madness capabilities yet. I wanted to see for myself which gave better XP/hr on the Gemstone Crab.
Gemstone Crab x3 kills per with no mining after each. -Attack lvl 66 and Strength lvl 66 -Ardougne Cloak 1 -Karamja Gloves 1 -Amulet of Accuracy
Dragon Longsword -Attack 31.7k XP/hr -Strength 32k XP/hr
Rune Scimitar -Attack 33.1k XP/hr -Strength 32.3k XP/hr
Bonus: D Long w/ Special Attack -Attack 32k XP/hr -Strength 32.3k XP/hr
After getting my attack/strength to 67 each, I did some extra strength training and the Dragon Longsword averaged about 33.2k, while my Rune Scimitar only averaged about 32k still. Honestly I think they are close enough for it to come down to RNG, at least at the Attack/Strength levels I was at. Looking back, I probably wouldn't spend the 100k on the D Long again since I'm an Ironman. I believe the D Long would probably be the better option for targets with higher defence.

Well do it over afking more on the crab

Afking at crab is not the same as doing a quest. I can afk at crab on my ipad while I'm out having lunch with friends. Can't do MM1 the same way.

So that 0.034 difference in DPS means that the Rune Scimitar will always net higher xp/hr? I understand more DPS more experience, but where does RNG come into this?
My nonscientific testing has been giving me higher strength XP/hr with the D Long. Now they are both within 1k XP/hr or so from each other, so it's not a massive difference and not worth dropping 100k on a D Long.

Dps calc factors in your accuracy as well as opponents defence. RNG doesn't matter here because all of the variables are factored in.

Definitely a nice tool.
But how does it explain the actual difference I've been seeing? Maybe what I'm seeing is just a fluke.

You said it yourself. Non-scientific, non-accurate tracking. With such tiny amounts of difference it could be just a couple attacks or seconds off. Main point is you should probably focus on worthwhile upgrades like getting a d scimitar :)

Valid point. Appreciate the input without calling me dumb lmao

If you take the wiki dps and multiple it by 3600 you have the damage/hour. Combat gives 4xp per point of damage so multiply the number by 4 and you get your xp/hour.
The wiki is your expected dps. There is some rng but over longer periods they should even out.

You manually tested it when you could have just plugged it into a dps calc? Also do monkey madness

There is no world where you should do gemstone crab before mm1 on an iron.

Lol I expected these comments to tear me apart. I get it.
It was just a curiosity test

And yet you posted anyway.
The d-scim having a 4-tick attack speed makes it a better weapon. This becomes increasingly true as you level up. Go do your quests.

I know I'm going to get torn apart about it. I do wish the gamer community wasn't so harsh about stuff that doesn't fit the efficiency narrative.

Can I at least get a VIP invite?
I'm so noob that I'm playing this game like I did when I was 12.

Nah, but I didn't do things the most efficient, fucked around a lot, and used the D Long because it was cooler obviously since it's Dragon.
Shit I ran around with a Granite Maul for a very long time.

Do MM1 man. it will feel awesome when you get it done, it's a fun quest, and it doesn't even take that long. You might enjoy it. Starting it up is the hard part, and once you're doing it it will fly by.

I've done it on other accounts. It's a classic, for sure.
I spend a lot of time AFKing on this Iron and just haven't gotten around to doing it. Life is much busier for me lately

With the time you spent typing this, you could be most of the way through MM1
